El periplo del veterano abridor venezolano Martín Pérez, quien no tenía asegurado el puesto en la rotación, luego de saberse hace ocho días que lo incluían en la lista de "Waivers" Jamás había visto ese tipo de movimiento contra alguien que estuviera respondiendo a las exigencias del equipo. Luego de eso, Martín rechazó una asignación directa, se convirtió en agente libre, firmó un contrato de ligas menores y luego fue colocado de nuevo en el mismo puesto de la rotación que ocupaba antes de que los Bravos lo designaran para asignación el domingo. Pero más puede la necesidad de la realidad que las marramucias de las oficinas. After that, Martín cleared waivers, elected free agency, inked a minor-league deal, and somehow ended up right back in the same rotation slot he had before the Braves DFA’d him on Sunday. I guess reality trumped front-office gymnastics. The Braves were stuck without a starter yesterday for the series against the Phillies in the old capital. And guess who they called up to take the hill and save the day? You guessed it—the man himself.

     Los bates de los Cachorros de Chicago estallaron en Wrigley Field, con los oseznos estrenando el uniforme "City Connect" y largando la bicoca de 7 cuadrangulares, para una felpa de 12 carreras a 4 entregada a los Mets de Nueva York. Dentro de la fiesta de batazos, el más importante lo largó el venezolano nacido en Los Teques Moisés Ballesteros, porque tenía a dos hombres en las bases e impulsó tres carreras para alejar a los oseznos 4 carreras arriba en el diferencial. El novato de 22 años ambidestro, se paró a la zurda para batear el 3ro. de la temporada y primero de ese lado del plato. Complementó su actuación con otro hit antes de ser sustituido en la baja de la quinta entrada cuando los "Cubs" ya ganaban por 7 a 3 en el marcador. Con el triunfo, los oseznos se mantienen a juego y medio de la punta en la estrecha división central de la liga Nacional, mientras que la derrota significó la novena seguida para un conjunto decepcionante de Queens, del cual no sabemos si tendrá la suficiente entereza de colocar las piezas en su lugar. Por el bien del béisbol, esperemos que así sea.
