Hay peloteros extraordinarios que cuando llegan a las mayores, no son ni la sombra de lo que han sido en las ligas invernales o en las ligas menores. Esto tiene explicación en el nivel especialmente alto propio de los lanzadores en la MLB. Y la brecha ha ido creciendo. De otro modo no se explica el pitcheo con la efectividad colectiva ostentada en ésta temporada versus la media en ligas menores. Es así como llegamos al caso del primera base Andrés Chaparro, natural de El Vigía, Venezuela, quien ya transita su tercera campaña con el equipo grande de los Nacionales de Washington. Andrés se graduó en 2024 y venía de hacer papilla el pitcheo de las menores. Estuvo descosiendo la liga venezolana de béisbol (LVBP) jugando para las Águilas del Zulia. Es decir, un prospecto del cual habían pocas dudas sobre su salto al bigshow. Pero he aquí no ha sido el mismo hombre del cual se tenían expectativas más altas. Hoy día cuida las espaldas de Luis García Jr. como suplente.

And one guy who's been taking his role seriously since getting the call is Venezuelan native Víctor Bericoto. He didn’t just leave the yard in his big league debut, but he’s been absolutely tearing the cover off the ball, locking down the left field spot for the San Francisco Giants. That turned a 1-0 deficit against the Rockies in Denver into a much better 2-1 lead, but the Fish bullpen couldn’t hold down the Rox, who rallied later on to take it 6-3. The St. Louis Cardinals dropped their game too, so no damage was done to that deadlock they’ve got with the Marlins for the final NL Wild Card spot. On to the next one.
