My love for Poetry.
Poetry is a beautiful way of passing a message with rhythm and rhymes. I have always been a lover of poetry and this made me read lots of poems while growing up. Some poems stuck with me while growing up and I will be happy to share them with you, one of which you might not know.
The first one is a local poem we use to sing in my local dialect, "Iya ni wura," which means "Mothers are Golds." The meaning of this poem points out the importance of a mother in the life of a child and this poem was sung to us at every opportunity we get while growing up; it teaches a lesson on why we should respect and love our mother.
The poem goes like this.
Iya ni wura biye biye - Mothers are precious gold
Ti a kole fowo ra - That we can't buy with money
Oo gboyun mi fosun mesan - carried me in her belly for 9 months
Oo pon mi fo odun meta - carried me on her back for 3 years
Iya ni wura biye biye - Mothers are precious gold
Ti a kole fowo ra - That we can't buy with money
That's the amazing poem we sang for our mothers when growing up. One amazing thing about this poem is that we use it to calm our mother down when she's angry with us. Anytime we are on the wrong and Mom is very furious with us, we start singing this song to remind her of the love we have for her and the love she has for us.
The next poem.
The next poem I love, which is also about mother, is a popular poem that we sang in schools and I believe the English-speaking nation should know it and other nations too. The poem's title is "My Mother."
The poem goes like this.
Who sat and watched my infant head
when sleeping on my cradle bed
and tears of sweet affection shed,
My Mother.
When pain and sickness made me cry,
who gazed upon my heavy eyes
and prayed from fear that I should die,
My Mother.
These are the famous words in praise of a mother. The praise of a mother can come differently in different cultures, and the amazing part is that they all point to the fact that mothers are amazing.
I will be writing a poem today that I will be dedicating to my mother.
My mother, so pure, strong and true
With hands that heals all our wounds.
The perfect hug that creates the strongest bond,
You love create a walking path for me.
Your beautiful dark skin, pure like gold
A gentle touch, which never gets old.
In her presence, I am so bold
In the face of danger, I won't fold.
Back so wide, I spent three years lying still
So secure, no one can touch or steal
My queen, the woman of steel
The greatest love we've ever seen.
So here’s to you, our guiding light,
Whose love still shines in the darkest night.
A mother’s work is never done,
Yet in your arms, we’ve all begun.
This is my mother; I love you.
Thanks for reading. This blog is dedicated to all the loving mothers out there.
