Birth Control: A fight between common sense and culture.
People often use this religion as a yardstick to defend the excessive children they procreate by saying, "God said we should go into the world and multiply," but sometimes it is just a lack of self-control.
In my culture (the Yoruba Tribe), when you see a man with so many children, it is always a source of pride back in the day. When I refer to 'back in the day,' I mean the time before Generation Z. It was common for people to marry multiple wives to have numerous children. However, following the government's introduction of a health policy to regulate childbirth, there has been increased awareness about the importance of birth control.
Currently, in my country, many hospitals offer birth control, which has saved so many families from financial problems and unwanted pregnancies. I was talking to a friend some weeks ago and luckily for me, we spoke about birth control. She has a child and this child is just a year old. She got pregnant again, which they were not ready for, and they had to abort her. She went to the hospital to request birth control and a family plan, but she was refused. The doctor told her that she had to have two or three kids before she could start family planning.
This is just an example of a family plan that exists in the country, but there are criteria to be met before one can apply for a family plan or get birth control pills.
There are some parts of my country that don't give heed to the advice of birth control no matter how hard and poor the economy of the state is. Most of these people are farmers in the village, and people who know no better. No matter the sermon about birth control given to them, it is a culture that men procreate many offspring that will keep the lineage going.
In the city, family planning is taught in school, from junior high to senior high, so before kids grow up and get married, they already have the idea and knowledge of family planning and birth control.
Family planning is now a common thing that people go to the hospital for, in my country (Nigeria) there are various forms of family planning available to individuals and couples. These include contraceptive methods such as pills, injections, implants, intrauterine devices (IUDs), condoms, and sterilization. Many people prefer condoms and implants. According to my research, I have come to understand that most ladies are scared of using pills because they don't know the side effects it will have on them.
Family planning services are provided at healthcare facilities across the country, as well as through outreach programs and community health workers. Individuals need to consult with doctors in the hospital to determine the most suitable method for their needs and preferences.
In conclusion, the world is in it term of recession and without doctor advice, many people know better than to have too many children they can't care for. Thanks for reading.
