Planting water leaf in dry Season, A good deal

Hi friends, it's another beautiful day, I do hope your having the very best of it.

This season is always a great season for water leaf farmers, this is the time you actually get the worth of your labour. water leaf in our region is an all family vegetable, commonly use for multiple meals. if you stay within the Calabar region of Cross River State and Akwa Ibom you will agree with me that water is a must used vegetable.

Sadly speaking like a dear friend @monica-ene share in her recent post, a lot of people carry their money to the market only to buy poisonous food substance because of application of too much fertilizer, so as to have a high yeilding harvest and to meet up with the two weeks timely harvest.

This dry Season is not like the Rainey season, because of high demand for manure and irrigation. like l said sometimes in my post, after planting water leaf it will take only two weeks before harvest.

In the market you will see two different kind of water leaf now, some are very tiny leafs, with short sterm and you will also fine some bigger leafs with long sterm, the once with tiny leafs are the once cultivated with poultry dung, but the other one are cultivated with high percentages of fertilizer and very little quantity of organic manure ( poultry dung) which in most cases will result in the issue discussed by @monica-ene.

The demand for irrigation is every much on a high side due to the dry nature of the soil, the leaf effectively survive with the water in the soil. ln the last two weeks l have to pour water intensively at about 6pm in the evening to be sure the ground is wet and also at about 7am in the morning before the sun rise.

To have have the desired yeilding harvest without fertilizer, you will be ready to do more of organic manure, you will have to be sure that you apply your manure effectively once every three week, when the water leaf stem is growing older, this is what l recommend you do.

Apply fertilizer and your poultry dung on the bed and allow the leaf to grow for about a month, by that time it is ready for transplanting then you harvest it and plant on a new bed then continue the routine harvest after two weeks for commercial purposes.

you can see the leaf so green and fresh, l can tell you that the market at this point is worth the effort spent in the process.
