LOH240: FINISH JOURNEY.

Hello and welcome to my blog.

If you get to a place and you are unable to express yourself because of language barrier how do you think you can cope? Simply put, can you survive in such an environment?

Language is a complex concept that refers to the means of communication used among humans to pass information across, share ideals or opinion, used in expressing emotions or feelings. Language can be used in form of gesture, written, unwritten or in form of sign language which can be used among the deaf.

The eccence of language is to be used to pass information across and that can only be done when the person we are communicating with understand the form of language we choose to use during the course of our communication.

As a British colonized country, English remain our first and official language but we must remember that Nigeria has over two hundred and fifty ethnic groups with over five hundred and twenty languages which we refer to as local dielet.

As a Nigerian, I can speak the generally acceptable Yoruba Language (Yoruba Oyo), some native dialects like Egba, Awori, Ijesa and Akure to mention few, Pigin or Ajegunle English, little bit of Hausa, Igbo and Egun languages respectively.

I learnt to speak the Egba, Ijesa, and Igbo languages from our neighbors while growing up and relocating from places to places. I learnt Pigin English as a teenager in our neighborhood because it was the official language then in our barracks (Police barracks).

Akure dialects was the language I picked when my father was officially transferred to Ondo State by the Nigerian Police Force and Hausa is the language I learnt from my previous neighbor who came from Kaduna.

Awori and Egun languages were languages I had to learn during my time as a student in higher institution because that was the language of the immediate environment and speaking it pave ways and it creates a sense of belonging.

So far, I can make simple sentences, greet, and bagin or negotiate price of market or goods with all the above listed languages and it makes me to be able to buy things at cheaper rate often because people see you as one of them once you speak the same language as them. In short form, language brings opportunity.

The language I will like to learn more than anything is finish which is the official language of the people of Finland. I came across the language while taking an English course on Duolingo application sometimes ago and I have started learning about it.

So far, I can greet, make simple request and introduce myself using the finish language and I am willing to learn more of it as time goes by in other for me to be able to speak one from various foreign languages we have today .

Thank you for reading.

You sure knows alot of languages, and I didn't know that you had so many different languages in your Country 😉 and that english is a official one. Seems it is more common that english is used as a official one, and probably cause that is the language most People all over the world knows.

I am swedish so that is our first language, but we learn english from early age in school so it is one that is used alot as many here are from all over the world.

Like you said language is important to be able to communicate, but even gestures and sign language can help to make yourself understandeble.

Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful week. Cheers 🌸
