Ahhhhhh, the nostalgia of the steam train! Why are we so enthralled with it-I wonder? I know that from my own perspective, there is NOTHING quite like standing closed to a steam train and feeling it-and I do mean feeling it just be! It’s exciting and a little scary at the same time, especially if you stop to think about the boiler and the pressure that lies within!

I asked ChatGPT just exactly why humans are intrigued. Here’s what it had to say:

So VERY aptly put! Some years ago, I was given an opportunity to run a scaled live steam engine pulling passengers. This particular train was scaled down however it was big enough to ride and the passenger cars were loaded with people! I’ve never forgotten that and have to say, I’d love the chance to drive a full sized one! That’s one for the bucket list I suppose! 🚂

I have to say that I agree with ChatGPT that when it comes to train engines, the diesels just don’t hold the same allure! They’re nice but they just aren’t alive like the steam engines are!

I like both and if I couldn’t get the chance to run the stream, I’d still jump at the chance to run a diesel engine!
