A Tree Adventure! 🌲🌳………….My Actifit Report Card: March 21 2026

As you can see, the sun finally came out! We were headed to the Whatcom Conservation annual native plant sale! @silvertop was after some shore pines and I was after some Aspen trees.

The rain has finally stopped and the sun was out all day! Last night, the river did in fact, spill over the levee and ended up across Main Street just east of Everson. We discovered that the USGS had a camera system right at that point on the road and that we can access it! Very cool! By the time we needed to traverse that way, the water had receded. So, in effect, we did flood but not like December’s flood.

Off we headed to Pioneer Park-the site of the plant sale. Ironically, we had more flood warning areas to pass through over in the city of Ferndale, to get there!

We were about 20 minutes early to the start of the sale and already, there were 75+ people in line ahead of us! Once it opened, the line moved pretty quickly. I asked one of the gals where the shore pines and Aspens were. First stop-shore pines.

We picked up 20 of them at $2.80 each. They were nice specimens with a nice root plug! Then off to the Aspens. I wanted 5 as they grow in clumps and figured that many would make a nice start. Aspen trees are technically rhizome and will continue to expand the clump naturally as they grow. When we lived in Colorado, what was touted as the world’s largest living organism was right up Ohio Creek-an Aspen grove that has been estimated to run up to 1000 acres. I miss the Aspen trees and this is my way of getting a little of that Ohio Creek vision back. The trees were $2.50 each. Then, I spied a flowering dogwood and got one of those at $4.25. We were happy with the trees! 😁 Here’s some shots of the event. Of course, at the end of this post, I’ll reveal the answer to the first picture!

Being as we were out earlier than usual and it was lunchtime, we stopped for some refreshments.

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned Lake Nooksack-the seasonal lake that appears all fall, winter and spring and usually dries up somewhere in June depending on whether or not it’s a rainy June. I can’t ever get a picture of it because I’m driving , so today, I coerced @silvertop to take the picture for me. Behold-Lake Nooksack!

Not too many ducks today, but some mornings, there are tons of them! 🦆

Here’s a closeup along the levee of the Nooksack River in Ferndale.

It’s right there close to the top of it! 😳

Once home, the trees were ‘heeled’ in and are ready to be planted permanently at a later date.

Later in the afternoon, we went for a hike. Here’s some moss and lichen I found.

I have more pictures but I’m saving them for another post.

So now-the moment you’ve all been waiting for…….

Why did the tree get stumped?………

Corny-but made you smile!😁

That’s it for today. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

👣🐑☕️🌞🌞🌞🌲🌳🦆☕️😳😁😎👍🌙🥱😴

BSB Luke 17:5-6

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
And the Lord answered, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.

Pine trees are beautiful plants, especially when they grow very tall. This is the first time I've read the name of the plant Poplars. It's great that the rain has stopped and the sun has come out You don't always have good weather here.Always attentive to the river's warnings, A big hug, my friend, and have a happy weekend! ❤️

Thank you @monachta! We have planted trees everywhere we've lived over the years, and will probably continue to do so until we're too weak to dig the hole for the tree! Take care and have a lovely week ahead! 🌹❤️ !LADY

Thanks sis! We were happy indeed!

There are 2 tree sales that happen up here; both have great prices, but the first one didn't have the shore pines, so we didn't go. They also didn't have Aspen and I didn't know the second one would until I read it. I hadn't planned on a purchase for myself, but when I saw that, I just had to.

Take care and enjoy the week! Much love! 🤗😘😍🌹❤️ !INDEED !HOPE !PIMP

What a great day you had! So glad the sun finally showed up for you and the plant sale. 20 shore pines and aspen trees—that's a serious start to something beautiful. I love that you're bringing a piece of that Ohio Creek memory back with the aspens. There's something special about planting trees that carry meaning.

The flood situation sounds intense, but glad it wasn't as bad as December and you were still able to make it. Lake Nooksack finally got its photo moment! 😄

And yes, the tree joke definitely made me smile. Corny but perfect.

Enjoy getting those trees in the ground. Sounds like a beautiful project ahead! 🌲🙏
