📺Sitcom Review: How I Met Your Mother☂️💛

Lately I've been very busy and stressed, so, it's completely necessary to have a space to relax, laugh, renew energies, and something I love to do is to go back to my comfort series or movies. And in that part, How I Met Your Mother has been saving my life💖 A sitcom that I had always listened to, but I hadn't given it a chance -for silly-, last year I did, and I fell in love from the first chapter until almost the last ones (because I didn't like the ending😹)

Now, that I'm in a state of permanent stress and anxiety due to situations of being culminating college, I watched this series again remembering why I loved it. And I had the need to share with you my opinion about it; and maybe encourage you to give it a chance if you haven't done it yet✨

Últimamente he estado muy ocupada y estresada, por lo cuál, es completamente necesario tener un espacio para relajarme, reírme, renovar energías, y algo que me encanta hacer es volver a mis series o películas de confort. Y en esa parte, How I Met Your Mother me ha estado salvando la vida💖 Una sitcom que siempre había escuchado, pero no le había dado una oportunidad -por tonta-, el año pasado lo hice, y me enamoré desde el primer capítulo hasta casi los últimos (porque no me gustó el final😹).

Ahora, que estoy en un estado de estrés y ansiedad permanente por situaciones de estar culminando la universidad, volví a ver esta serie recordando porqué me encantó. Y tuve la necesidad de compartir con ustedes mi opinión sobre la misma; y quizás animarlos para que le den una oportunidad si aún no lo han hecho✨

How I Met Your Mother follows the story of Ted Mosby, an architect who, in the year 2030, tells his children how he met their mother. Through a retrospective narration, Ted recalls his life in New York with his group of friends: Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin. Each chapter unfolds between love entanglements, professional dilemmas and moments of personal growth, with a good balance between humor and emotion.

Many talk about the crises of adolescence, but few talk about the catastrophe of being a young adult in a world that seeks to pressure you to meet standards, the difficulty of finding a job in your profession, living in serious relationships, and the relevance that every experience influences the development of your life.

How I Met Your Mother sigue la historia de Ted Mosby, un arquitecto que, durante el año 2030, le narra a sus hijos cómo conoció a su madre. Por medio de una narración retrospectiva, Ted recuerda su vida en New York junto a su grupo de amigos: Marshall, Lily, Barney y Robin. Cada capítulo se desarrolla entre enredos amorosos, dilemas profesionales y momentos de crecimiento personal, con un buen equilibrio entre el humor y lo emotivo.

Son nueve temporadas que te mantiene intrigado con la gran duda: "¿quién es la madre de los hijos de Ted?". La historia no se centra únicamente en esta mujer, sino en todo el recorrido romántico que realiza Ted en su búsqueda del amor verdadero, lo que te permite conectarte con dichas situaciones, dado que se sienten inspiradas en la vida real. CHARACTERS

The most important part of this series is its characters. Each one of them gives soul and structure to the show with their personalities and stories. Ted Mosby is the main protagonist, however, the focus of attention is divided among each of them, because they all live crucial moments. The story is told from the perspective of Ted, a hopeless romantic, who believes in the signs of destiny and wants to find his true love; an aspect that I personally loved, since we always see stories like this from a female protagonist, and it is quite interesting to know a little of how men live relationships. Also, Ted is too tender with his hope that in the perfect place, he will find his perfect girl, and as soon as he sees her he will feel that she is the one.

Likewise, both he and his friends, we see them going through different everyday situations, which all of us will have gone through at some time or may go through. The stress of being unemployed or hating your boss, having horrible dates, the desire to fulfill a dream, striving to achieve something important and then not achieving it, the loss of a loved one, or simply recognizing that we can find wonderful people, but they will not be permanent in your life, just a teaching. With Ted we learn a lot about life, and his phrases, his perspectives, his situations, always find a way to strike a chord with us.

PERSONAJES

La parte más importante de esta serie son sus personajes. Cada uno de ellos le da alma y estructura al programa con sus personalidades e historias. Ted Mosby es el protagonista principal, sin embargo, el foco de atención se va repartiendo entre cada uno, porque todos viven momentos cruciales. La historia se narra desde la perspectiva del Ted, un romántico empedernido, que cree en las señales del destino y desea encontrar su amor verdadero; un aspecto que, personalmente, amé, dado que siempre vemos historias así desde una protagonista femenina, y es bastante interesante conocer un poco de cómo viven los hombres las relaciones. Además, Ted es demasiado tierno con su esperanza de que en el lugar perfecto, encontrará a su chica perfecta, y apenas la vea sentirá que ella es la indicada.

Así mismo, tanto a él como a sus amigos, los vemos atravesar diferentes situaciones cotidianas, que a todos nos habrá pasado alguna vez o nos puede pasar. El estrés de estar desempleado o de odiar a tu jefe, tener citas horribles, el deseo de cumplir un sueño, esforzarte para conseguir algo importante y luego no lograrlo, la pérdida de un ser querido, o simplemente reconocer que podemos encontrar personas maravillosas, pero no serán permanentes en tu vida, solo una enseñanza. Con Ted tenemos muchos aprendizajes de la vida, y sus frases, sus perspectivas, sus situaciones, siempre encuentran la manera de pegarnos en una fibra sensible.

Among the other main characters we have Marshall Eriksen, Ted's best friend since college. He is a lawyer with great aspirations, whose main dream is to fight for environmental rights and take care of the planet. An innocent, kind, and traditional man, you perceive him as a protective older brother.

Lily Aldrin is the creative and emotional force of the group. The artist, and preschool teacher. A small woman to be feared, because Lily is consistent and always gets what she wants (in whatever way she wants it). She's Marshall's girlfriend since college, and it's a very beautiful relationship that we see evolve, with its happy and unpleasant moments. Also, I find Lily's role in balancing the role of wife and mother very relevant, without leaving behind your essence as a woman with desires and goals.

Barney Stinson, the womanizing friend that every group has, the one you say: “he'll never grow up”🤣 A man who under his facade of millionaire, expensive suits, carefree and casanova, hides a complex character with a childhood that marked him deeply. And who, in addition, loves his friends and always seeks the best for each one, although sometimes he does not choose the best methods, his intentions are genuine. For me, one of the best characters, due to his development within the series.

Robin Scherbatsky, is the strong, empowered woman we wish we could be. An ambitious journalist who is not driven by romantic ideals. She is the latest arrival to the group and, without a doubt, she was the piece they were missing, with her black and sarcastic humor. In the series she faces conflicts that, especially for women, help us to reflect on how we lead the course of our lives.

Entre los otros personajes principales tenemos a Marshall Eriksen, mejor amigo de Ted desde la universidad. Es un abogado de grandes aspiraciones, cuyo principal sueño es luchar por los derechos ambientales y cuidar al planeta. Un hombre inocente, bondadoso, y tradicional, que lo percibes como un hermano mayor protector.

Lily Aldrin es la fuerza creativa y emocional del grupo. La artista, y maestra de preescolar. Una mujer pequeña a la que hay que temerle, porque Lily es constante y siempre obtiene lo que quiere (de la manera en que sea). Es la novia de Marshall desde la universidad, y es una relación muy hermosa que vemos evolucionar, con sus momentos felices y desagradables. Además, me parece muy relevante la función de Lily en equilibrar el papel de esposa y madre, sin dejar atrás tu esencia como mujer con deseos y metas.

Barney Stinson, el amigo mujeriego que tiene cada grupo, al que dices: "jamás va a madurar"🤣 Un hombre que debajo de su fachada de millonario, trajes caros, despreocupado y casanova, se esconde un personaje complejo con una infancia que lo marcó profundamente. Y que, además, adora a sus amigos y siempre busca lo mejor para cada uno, aunque a veces no escoge los mejores métodos, sus intenciones son genuinas. Para mí, uno de los mejores personajes, debido a su desarrollo dentro de la serie.

Robin Scherbatsky, es la mujer fuerte y empoderada que deseamos ser. Una periodista ambiciosa que no se deja llevar por ideales románticos. Es la última en llegar al grupo y, sin duda, era la pieza que les hacía falta, con su humor negro y sarcástico. En la serie enfrenta conflictos que, especialmente a las mujeres, nos ayuda a reflexionar sobre cómo llevamos el curso de nuestras vidas.

STRONG POINTS

One of the greatest strengths of How I Met Your Mother is the chemistry between the characters, and obviously between the actors. The dynamic of their friendship and coexistence makes you feel that it is authentic, the one you have with your best friends, and that reason helps you connect with the plot, get involved in the development of the stories, and get attached to the characters. And each of them brings something important to the series, none of them is indispensable or “secondary”, because if any of them were missing, the series would not have been so successful. Marshall's innocence and loyalty; Lily's cunning and creativity; Barney's charisma and quirkiness; Robin's independence and ambition; and Ted's perseverance and strength.

Each of these elements creates the right balance between genuine comedy and addressing important aspects of life that rarely follow a set plan. In addition, I find it wonderful that each character stars in iconic and memorable scenes that stick in the viewer's mind. The storytelling is not only witty, with flashbacks and recurring references, but it also knows when to leave humor aside to convey a meaningful message. And for that reason, it transcends traditional comedy to become a story we can relate to.

PUNTOS FUERTES

Uno de los mayores puntos fuertes de How I Met Your Mother es la química entre los personajes, y obviamente entre los actores. La dinámica de su amistad y convivencia te hace sentir que es auténtica, la que tienes con tus mejores amigos, y esa razón te ayuda a conectarte con la trama, involucrarte en el desarrollo de las historias, y tomarle cariño a los personajes. Y cada uno de ellos aporta algo importante a la serie, ninguno es indispensable o "secundario", porque si alguno faltara no hubiera tenido tanto éxito la serie. La inocencia y lealtad de Marshall; la astucia y creatividad de Lily; el carisma y extravagancia de Barney; la independencia y ambición de Robin; y la perseverancia y fuerza de Ted.

Cada uno de éstos elementos crea un equilibrio adecuado entre comedia genuina y abordar aspectos importantes de la vida que rara vez siguen un plan establecido. Además, me parece maravilloso que cada personaje protagonice escenas icónicas y memorables, que quedan grabadas en la mente del espectador. La narración no es solo ingeniosa, con flashbacks y referencias recurrentes, sino que también sabe cuando dejar el humor a un lado para transmitir un mensaje significativo. Y por esa razón, trasciende de la comedia tradicional, para convertirse en una historia con la que podemos identificarnos.

WEAK POINTS

However, nothing is perfect. I consider that its main weakness is the irregularity of its last season. The series runs with a good structure, but at the end the thread of events is lost a little, and also, what was previously presented in an adequate pace to understand what was happening and to make sense, becomes a hurried pace, forgetting the details and the sequence.

And, likewise, the end of the series is not exempt from criticism (and rightly so). I admit that I didn't like the ending, the last episode doesn't exist for me, it seemed to me that it makes everything that happened seem unnecessary, it detracts from the real plot of the series. The screenwriters made a mistake in writing the ending. So in my opinion, the series ends with Ted meeting the mother of his children😌.

However, those factors don't overshadow the achievements of the series, they just created a dissatisfaction in the audience.

PUNTOS DÉBILES

No obstante, nada es perfecto. Considero que su principal punto débil es la irregularidad de su última temporada. La serie transcurre con una buena estructura, pero al final se pierde un poco el hilo de los hechos, y además, lo que antes era presentado en un ritmo adecuado para comprender lo que sucedía y que tuviera sentido, se convierte en un ritmo apresurado, olvidando los detalles y la secuencia.

Y, así mismo, el final de la serie no está exento de críticas (y con razón). Admito que no me gustó el final, el último episodio no existe para mí, me pareció que hace ver todo lo transcurrido como algo innecesario, le resta importancia a la verdadera trama de la serie. Los guionista cometieron un error al escribir el final. Así que en mi opinión, la serie termina con Ted conociendo a la madre de sus hijos😌

Sin embargo, esos factores no opacan los logros de la serie, solo crearon una insatisfacción en el público.

How I Met Your Mother is definitely a series that left its mark on the audience, thanks to its combination of humor, emotionality and incredible characters. There are nine seasons that build a story that explores the daily routine of life, and the way in which each step we take leads us to the place where we are today. Its narrative style, iconic moments and unexpected twists and turns have made it a sitcom benchmark.

Definitivamente, How I Met Your Mother es una serie que dejó huella en el público, gracias a su combinación de humor, emotividad y personajes increíbles. Son nueve temporadas que construyen una historia que explora la cotidianidad de la vida, y la manera en qué cada paso que damos nos lleva al lugar en qué estamos actualmente. Su estilo narrativo, sus momentos icónicos y giros inesperados la convirtieron en una referente de las sitcoms.
