The world has become increasingly digital. The speed with which new technologies are implemented and the speed with which information is disseminated to people means that they don't have time to process this flood of data.

The more time passes, the fewer books people read. It used to be common for every town to have public or even private libraries. When I was a teenager, there was a community library in the neighborhood. I loved going to the library and browsing through books. Some of the more interesting ones I only got to read on my visits to the library, as they weren't allowed to be borrowed.

I never had a regular reading habit, and I didn't feel like buying books at the time either, as I thought it was a total waste. Most physical books you read and then they sit on a shelf, moldy. Only a few bedside books are saved, the ones you enjoy reading several times throughout your life.

With the evolution of technology, people can read digital books on their computers, tablets or even on dedicated devices such as Amazon's Kindle. Reading is an incredible thing, because when you connect with the book, it feels like traveling to another world or even another universe. However, as I mentioned, the speed with which information is thrown at the population makes people feel that they are wasting time when they read a book.

When I ask someone if they'd rather watch a movie or read the book about that movie, most of the time they'd rather watch the movie. People want quick things, quick results, and reading takes time and patience. Only those who have had the feeling of really being “transported” into a story have the pleasure of reading a book.

With the digital age we are living in and people's lack of the habit of reading books, the result is that libraries are becoming extinct. Today, libraries can only be found in schools, universities and perhaps some shopping malls. But the demand for readers is dwindling, as today's generation prefers to spend hours on their cell phones or social networks.

As I mentioned, reading is a habit. If you don't set aside time for reading, whether it's in the morning before you start work or at night before you go to sleep, you'll never be able to immerse yourself in the world of books. Reading transforms life and changes people's thinking.

Therefore, the trend is for libraries to become increasingly scarce. Physical books may become increasingly rare, especially among the younger generations. As the world becomes increasingly digital, maybe one day schools and universities will do away with physical libraries and adopt digital libraries. Can you imagine lending digital books? You receive a copy of a book with your details printed on each page of the book, and if the book is leaked on the internet, you will be severely punished. Perhaps this is the evolution of libraries, which store thousands of books and need several people to manage these hundreds of old and morphed books.

O mundo tem se tornado cada vez mais digital. A velocidade com que novas tecnologias são implementadas e a rapidez com que as informações são disseminadas para as pessoas fazem com que elas não tenham tempo de processar essa enxurrada de dados.

Quanto mais o tempo passa, as pessoas leem menos livros. Era comum, em cada cidade, existirem bibliotecas públicas ou até mesmo privadas. Quando eu era adolescente, no bairro havia uma biblioteca comunitária. Eu amava ir à biblioteca e folhear alguns livros. Alguns mais interessantes eu cheguei a ler apenas nas minhas visitas a essa biblioteca, uma vez que não era permitido o empréstimo.

Nunca tive o hábito regular de leitura, e também não tinha vontade de comprar livros na época, pois achava um total desperdício. A maioria dos livros físicos, você lê e depois eles ficam jogados em uma prateleira, mofando. Apenas alguns livros de cabeceira se salvam, aqueles que dão gosto de ler várias vezes ao longo da vida.

Com a evolução da tecnologia, as pessoas podem ler livros digitais em seus computadores, tablets ou até mesmo em dispositivos dedicados a esse fim, como o Kindle da Amazon. Ler é algo incrível, pois, quando você se conecta com o livro, parece que viaja para outro mundo ou até mesmo para outro universo. Porém, como mencionei, a velocidade com que a informação é jogada para a população faz com que as pessoas sintam que estão perdendo tempo quando leem um livro.

Quando pergunto a uma pessoa se ela prefere assistir a um filme ou ler o livro desse filme, na maioria das vezes ela prefere assistir ao filme. As pessoas querem coisas rápidas, resultados rápidos, e ler é algo que exige tempo e paciência. Somente quem já teve o sentimento de se "transportar" realmente para uma história é que tem o prazer de ler um livro.

Com a era digital em que estamos vivendo e a falta de hábito das pessoas de ler livros, o resultado é que as bibliotecas estão entrando em extinção. Hoje, só é possível encontrar bibliotecas em escolas, universidades e, talvez, em alguns shoppings. Mas a demanda por leitores está cada vez menor, pois a geração atual prefere passar horas no celular ou nas redes sociais.

Como mencionei, a leitura é um hábito. Se você não reserva um horário para a leitura, seja pela manhã, antes de iniciar suas atividades, ou à noite, antes de dormir, você nunca conseguirá mergulhar no mundo dos livros. A leitura transforma a vida e muda o pensamento de cada pessoa.

Portanto, a tendência é que as bibliotecas se tornem cada vez mais escassas. Livros físicos talvez se tornem itens cada vez mais raros, principalmente entre as novas gerações. Como o mundo está se tornando cada vez mais digital, quem sabe um dia as escolas e universidades extinga as bibliotecas físicas e adote bibliotecas digitais. Já imaginou empréstimos de livros digitais? Você recebe uma copia de um livro com seus dados impresso em cada página do livro, se o livro vaza na internet você sofrerá punições severas. Talvez essa seja a evolução das bibliotecas, que armazenam milhares de livros e precisem de várias pessoas para gerenciar essas centenas livros antigos e morfados.
