It may seem obvious, but something that certainly changes people's lives is education. Although it is a time-consuming and long-term process, every country that invests seriously in education will certainly have a more prosperous future, with a fairer, more developed society that is prepared for the challenges of the future.

A country that invests seriously in education reaps rewards in all areas, improves public health, reduces violence, strengthens the economy, and promotes equal opportunities. Well-educated people are better able to innovate, undertake, and collaborate in an ethical and responsible manner.

But for all this to happen, it is essential that there be literacy, both for children who are beginning their journey in life and for adults who, for different reasons, did not have this opportunity in childhood.

Literacy represents the mastery of the basic skills that each person needs to live independently and actively in their daily lives, read, write, perform simple mathematical operations, interpret information, and communicate effectively. It is the gateway to knowledge, citizenship, and the construction of a more just and participatory society.

Literacy allows people to have a broader view of the world. By knowing how to read and write, they gain access to information, knowledge, and opportunities that can transform their lives. A literate person has better prospects because they are better prepared to face challenges, seek new paths, and fully exercise their citizenship.

Education, however, does not work miracles. Of course, there will still be people without ethics or empathy who, even if educated, will choose to act irresponsibly or harm others. I remember an episode during my undergraduate studies, when I took a course on Information Technology, Ethics, and Society. The professor was from the field of Education and had a PhD. However, I have never met anyone so arrogant.

Despite his academic background, he displayed a strong sense of superiority and treated everyone badly, including students, coworkers, and staff. His authoritarian and disrespectful attitude contrasted with everything one would expect from an educator.

This example reinforces the idea that education alone does not transform character. The true value of education lies in how it is applied and lived in everyday life. Knowledge without humility and respect loses its purpose.

Conflicts will always exist, regardless of people's level of education. After all, everyone has their own way of acting and thinking, and it is natural to have different points of view. However, when there is a certain level of education, opinions tend to be more sensible and well-founded.

Therefore, I believe that education changes people, in most cases, for the better. Nowadays, many people have been creating the narrative that education is a waste of time, and that entrepreneurship, becoming an influencer, or making a living from digital media is more lucrative, without having to waste years studying. This discourse has alienated many from educational life, which, incidentally, is increasingly devalued.

Still, I reaffirm that education transforms. From the moment knowledge and wisdom are built through literacy, people change their way of thinking, reacting, and acting. Education is an ally of communication, and those who know how to communicate know how to negotiate, understand, listen, and reach consensus. Literacy is the first step toward a better society, and a better society inspires and shapes better people in every way.

Pode parecer óbvio, mas algo que certamente muda a vida das pessoas é a educação. Embora seja um processo demorado e de longo prazo, todo país que investe em educação de forma séria, certamente terá um futuro mais próspero, com uma sociedade mais justa, desenvolvida e preparada para os desafios do futuro.

Um país que investe seriamente em educação colhe frutos em todas as áreas, melhora a saúde pública, reduz a violência, fortalece a economia, e promove a igualdade de oportunidades. Pessoas bem-educadas são mais aptas a inovar, empreender e colaborar de forma ética e responsável.

Mas, para que tudo isso aconteça, é essencial que haja alfabetização, tanto das crianças que estão iniciando sua jornada na vida, quanto dos adultos que, por diferentes motivos, não tiveram essa oportunidade na infância.

A alfabetização representa o domínio das habilidades básicas que cada pessoa precisa para viver de forma autônoma e ativa no dia a dia, ler, escrever, realizar operações matemáticas simples, interpretar informações e se comunicar de maneira eficaz. Ela é a porta de entrada para o conhecimento, para a cidadania e para a construção de uma sociedade mais justa e participativa.

A alfabetização permite que as pessoas tenham uma visão mais ampla do mundo. Ao saber ler e escrever, elas passam a ter acesso a informações, conhecimentos e oportunidades que podem transformar suas vidas. Uma pessoa alfabetizada tem melhores perspectivas, pois está mais preparada para enfrentar desafios, buscar novos caminhos e exercer plenamente sua cidadania.

A educação, no entanto, não faz milagres. É claro que ainda existirão pessoas sem ética, sem empatia e que, mesmo instruídas, escolherão agir de forma irresponsável ou prejudicial ao outro. Lembro-me de um episódio durante minha graduação, quando cursei a disciplina de Informática, Ética e Sociedade. O professor responsável era da área da Educação e possuía o título de doutor. No entanto, nunca conheci alguém tão arrogante.

Apesar da formação acadêmica, ele demonstrava um forte senso de superioridade e tratava mal a todos, alunos, colegas de trabalho e funcionários. Sua postura autoritária e desrespeitosa contrastava com tudo o que se espera de um educador.

Esse exemplo reforça a ideia de que a instrução, sozinha, não transforma o caráter. O verdadeiro valor da educação está em como ela é aplicada e vivida no cotidiano. Conhecimento, sem humildade e respeito, perde seu propósito.

Conflitos sempre irão existir, independentemente do nível de instrução das pessoas. Afinal, cada um tem seu modo de agir e pensar, e é natural haver diferentes pontos de vista. No entanto, quando há um certo grau de instrução, as opiniões tendem a ser mais sensatas e fundamentadas.

Portanto, acredito que a educação muda as pessoas, na maioria das vezes, para melhor. Nos dias atuais, muitas pessoas vêm criando a narrativa de que a educação é uma perda de tempo, e que empreender, se tornar influenciador ou viver do digital dá mais dinheiro, sem precisar perder anos estudando. Esse discurso tem afastado muitos da vida educacional, que, por sinal, é cada vez mais desvalorizada.

Ainda assim, reafirmo, a educação transforma. A partir do momento em que se constrói conhecimento e sabedoria por meio da alfabetização, as pessoas mudam seu modo de pensar, de reagir e de agir. A educação é uma aliada da comunicação, e quem sabe se comunicar, sabe negociar, compreender, ouvir e chegar a consensos. A alfabetização é o primeiro passo para uma sociedade melhor, e uma sociedade melhor contagia e forma pessoas melhores em tudo.
