Walking on Wednesdays in the Bislim gorge in Macedonia

Hello everyone. My recent stay with a friend from Macedonia allowed me to see the natural beauty of this country. Me, my friend and his family decided to walk through the Bislam Gorge this Wednesday. I just love hiking in the mountains.I started walking through the Bislim gorge in Macedonia with the desire to visit a part of the natural area that I had previously only mentioned in passing, but never visited in detail. Getting to the starting point of the trail was easy, and immediately upon arrival I could see a narrow passage between the hills marking the entrance to the gorge. The path was clearly visible and led upstream, following the course of the Kumanovka river that cuts through this area. I moved at a leisurely pace, following the curves and transitions between rocky sections.

The first part of the trail led a little lower along the river, so I could approach the water in several places. The current was calm, and the banks were accessible, which allowed for short stops and observation of the surroundings.I noticed erosion marks and layers of rock that gave an idea of the centuries the river had cut its way.I continued on through the gorge and noticed a transition to a gradually rising part of the trail. I stopped there to look at the course of the river from above. From that angle I could see the gorge narrowing and the river winding its course between the rocks. In several places I saw small natural terraces and cuts that look like they are part of an old hiking route. From there I continued in the direction where the path was marked with smaller markings.I walked cautiously, because some parts of the ground were slippery from the humidity that lingers in the shady places of the gorge.

As I progressed, the gorge slowly widened. The trail went to a slightly higher level, so I had better visibility in the forward and backward direction. There I came across several extensions where I could stop and take a break.Towards the end of the trail, I approached the part where the gorge opens up to a flatter area. The river meandered more calmly there, and the path led along its left edge. I passed by gravel banks and several small meadows that are occasionally used as picnic areas. This part of the gorge seems accessible and easy for longer walks, so I also noticed the tracks of cyclists. At the end of the walk, I looked back at the whole way I had come. The Bislim Gorge proved to be a place that is easy to get around, but offers enough content for a longer walk. The path is varied, with flat parts and gentle ascents

I finished the tour satisfied that I had covered the whole trail and got to know the gorge from different angles. The walk was simple but meaningful, with clear transitions between rocky, river and picnic areas. The Bislim gorge left me with the impression of a natural space that offers a good combination of a short adventure and a leisurely walk, so I would be happy to take this route again.
Thank you for reading my post. All the best
Dragan

A beautiful and small country, it used to be part of my country Serbia, then it separated. And the people are still respectful and friendly. I am 40 km from the border with Macedonia and I often go there.
