My Orchid Garden by the Window
Orchids have a special place in my home. I have several types, but they are mostly phalaenopsis because they have proven to be the most rewarding to care for. I bought the first one as a gift for my wife, and at the time I didn't even know how much care it requires, and how much it repays with its appearance when it is cared for in the right way.My wife takes care of them, but so do I. I made mistakes in the beginning. I watered it too much, because I thought the soil always had to be moist. The leaves began to turn yellow and the roots began to rot. It wasn't until I read that they only need water when the roots turn gray and silvery that I started watering them properly. Now I pour a little water on them once a week, and more often in the summer because they lose moisture faster.
When I notice new green shoots, I know the orchid is happy. I move them from time to time, because I found that they like the place next to the window where there is a lot of light, but not direct sunlight. When I put them on the south side, the flowers fade quickly, so I found a middle solution - the east side where they get the morning sun.
When a new flower branch appears, it grows slowly for months and then suddenly the buds start to open one by one. On those days, I stand next to her almost every time and watch her change. I find it particularly interesting that the flower lasts for a long time, even for several months.
In addition to watering, I occasionally feed them. I use a liquid fertilizer diluted in water, once every two or three weeks. Then I notice that the flower branch grows faster and the leaves get a stronger green color. I also clean their leaves from time to time with a damp cloth, because dust collects in the apartment, and dust makes it difficult for them to breathe.
I once tried to transplant an orchid. It was a special challenge because I had to buy a special coarse bark substrate and carefully remove the old root. I was unsure, but when I saw that after a couple of months it grew new leaves and roots, I realized that I had succeeded. Although they require attention and knowledge, they repay you with long flowering and the feeling that there is always a part of nature in the room that gives life and warmth. My wife is especially proud of her orchids so sometimes I'm jealous haha. When he gets up, he talks to them first, then he makes coffee for me

Awesome! Phals are great, those leaves turning yellow can be scary. Less water is key! 🐴 🌿

Your orchids bloom so beautiful. I have three plants, I think one is dead because I neglected it - in fact it don't take care of all of them very well - another has regrown this year but only has four small flowers and one just has healthy leaves from last year, but no new growth. I think I need to give them more love and attention 😅
If you grow something, you have to work with love. Plants can feel it.
Yes, so very true, I need to love my plants more and not neglect them so much
