GastroFest - Something for everyone, for all tastes and all senses!

Hello everyone. Today I will write to you about the Gastro Festival. I visited the festival last year in October in search of the best homemade Golica pumpkin oil, but along the way I also found hemp oil and many other things that were necessary. What pleased me the most were the medicinal brandies made from various fruits such as mead, apple cinnamon, salted caramel and palinka with various additives.Brands on the bottles include "Mezes Dulo" and "Dubai Al Qamar

I visited GASTROFEST in Bečej with the clear intention of spending a day among people, food and music. This festival has been known for years as an event that brings together gastronomy lovers from all over Vojvodina and beyond, and is held along the banks of the Tisa River,GASTROFEST in Bečej is primarily a cooking competition - most often fish soup, stew and other dishes prepared in kettles.The event has a tradition of more than two decades and has become one of the recognizable events in the municipality of Bečej. Apart from the competition part, the festival also has a cultural and artistic program.When I arrived, I could already smell the smoke from the boiler at the entrance.












Rows of tables and tents were set up along the festival grounds. Crews were already busy chopping onions, preparing fish, and building fires.Each kettle had its own story, and each team had its own method of preparation. Some said the secret was in the type of pepper, others in slow cooking, still others in the order of adding the ingredients.
I walked between the stands and stopped at a few teams who invited me to try the broth.I've talked to competitors who come every year and they say that the prize is not the most important thing to them, but the camaraderie and atmosphere.On one part of the space there were stands with local products: honey, ajvar, sausages, cakes, handicrafts. I stopped by the cheese maker and talked about the production method. I bought a few products, more as a souvenir of the day than out of necessity.

I returned home with the feeling that I will return again. Because events like this don't last just one day they remain in my memory through the smells, conversations, and smiles I experienced there.
