Sketching King of the Savannah: A Regal Gaze

avatar
(Edited)

When I started, I was unsure what to draw and spent 20 minutes thinking. Frustrated, I put down my pencil and sketchbook and stepped outside for a break. As I walked, I noticed a boy playing with a toy lion, standing tall like a true king. That moment sparked an idea—I would draw a majestic lion standing proudly on a rock, embodying strength and leadership.

Inspired, I searched for reference images online and found some incredible ones. I decided to start with the lion’s face, the essence of its power. I focused on every detail, sharpening its features with precision.

After 45 minutes of dedicated work, this is how it turned out.

Seeing the great result, I felt more confident and experienced, ready to create something even better. To improve further, I sketched a few rough drafts, refining my technique.

Then, I began the actual drawing. When I start, I fully immerse myself in the process, shutting out all distractions. I don’t pause or think about anything else—I stay completely focused until the artwork is finished.

After nearly 2.5 hours of deep focus, I completed a unique artwork—a majestic lion standing tall, radiating leadership and confidence. Every stroke captured its power, making the piece truly special.

Here is another rough work for improving the body.

Before starting a drawing, I always practice by sketching similar ones from the internet. Rough work is essential to understand key elements like body angles, head direction, and perspective.

For this piece, I first drew a lion standing straight and another looking sideways, studying their forms. Then, with that experience, I started my final artwork—unique, refined, and even better than the references.

Exceptional detail with the first one! I like the anatomical drawings as well, with the different positioning. Also, that 2.5 hour drawing... well, I don't think I could do that in 2.5 hours lol! This is a serious talent.
