Who do not like fried rice anyway?

I hope you all having some great days, because I don't!! Well today will be some special day regarding this is my food rant post for the very first time in Asean HIVE.

I start this post by saying Who doesn't like fried rice anyway... Fried rice is one of the favorite food in Asia, not only in ASEAN. It is one of our iconic comfort foods, a show case of the diversivity of Asian simple cuisine. It is our ultimate comfort food!

Ok so what went wrong with nasi goreng or fried rice on me?

It Should Be The Ultimate Comfort Food.

Usually when I have no clue what to order on a restaurant of food court, I just go with Nasi Goreng. It is not my favorite food, I prefer some burger or Noodle, even spaghettis and Ramen are better options... But I am Asian!

Asian needs to eat rice, or it is not counted as lunch or dinner. No rice no meal, that's the way of our life!!

That's why I prefer to go with Nasi Goreng even there are better preferred food available. At least I am eating rice and I should be full.

I often meet people outside which put me frequently having meeting on coffee shops or having a business meal together with other people. It should not have to be my clients, sometime they are just business acquaintances, vendors, coworkers and others. So Many occasions I end up having to get some meals at a not well known places or even I know the place, I haven't got any thought about dine in there before.

So as you can guess, most of them were ended by having Nasi Goreng of Fried Rice, and almost all were happy ending because I could enjoy them and they were worth of the price.

But this week, within the last 2 days, I ended my day with having terrible nasi goreng in my dine out activities with some business acquaintances.

So here they are:

The Day One

On Tuesday, which was the day that I did not write any post on Hive, I had a very long night with an old Acquaintance and we talked from 7 pm at night, having dinner at 8pm and went back home at 3 am.

We did not change place, we took a well known cafe which was set up by a famous actor and it was a viral place. It's well known for having a good service and opens for 24 hours non stop. So We thought it was a good choice regarding we knew before it would be a long talk in that night.

I ordered Nasi Goreng Ayam Suwir, which in English it meant Fried Rice With Shredded Chicken. In the above image, you can see that it was the presentation of the Nasi Goreng I ordered that night, and It was costly... Not expensive but I believed it did not worth for the $3 I spent for it.

Here was the first disappointment... the presentation was like a con without any disguise. Seriously, you are giving a plate which half of it was for a single layered lettuce? yes I know the look was not as bad as I say, lettuce with a tomato cut and a couple of cucumber cuts. But come on, half of the plate?

The colour was a pale one too. Maybe it was due to bad lighting, I was struggle to take a good focused shot too. But seriusly the color was pale, and it did not look appealing to me at all.

The shredded chicken was a pale white and as it color tried to say the taste to me, it was a honest one... The taste was a plain one, no taste at all. It taste was a completely similar with a plain chicken breast, boiled with no seasoning then got shredded.

The last was the rice, taste bad. Come on, $3 Fried rice but the rice was terrible? It made the whole dish failed, end of case.

The Second Day - Today

A few hours ago, I got a call from another acquittance and we met up at 7 pm again. This time I picked the place, it was well known for the good decoration and good taste of food.

However this time we could not talk long because the place was closed down at 10 pm. I thought this was a good one because I would not need to stay longer and had a good excuse to end the convo later.

I ordered Nasi Goreng as a revenge for yesterday awful Nasi Goreng...

This time I did not order the chicken, It was Nasi Goreng Kambing, or in English it was Fried Rice With Goat Meat. I like goat meat and I like Nasi Goreng Kambing, so I thought that time it would be a good one.

Well you can see the presentation above which in my opinion it was way better than the yesterday one. The proportion was perfect and the only thing I spotted directly that disappointed me was the sunny side up. It was a regular egg, not the omega egg. And it was a plain sunny side up, which most of Nasi Goreng Kambing comes with omelet.

However this one was a disaster, I even can't tell which one is the worse one.

The taste was too salty, and I complained a lot to the server. I ordered a spicy Nasi Goreng Kambing, not a salty Nasi Goreng Kambing and there is no salty Nasi Goreng anyway.

I believe the cook put too much salt in it, maybe double portion due to having some blank thought. I believed this was unaccepted because I paid $5 for this one. This was a decent restaurant on a big shopping center, so it must not come with cheap food.

I believe the more you pay for your food, in term of you are not paying a budget meal, but more like a real expensive food, you are having more right to complain about it. You are buying quality not some basic needs.
