Trying New Nasi Padang Outlet - Not Hitting My Budget lol

Hello Asean Hive Community

How are you guys this week? Sorry if I haven't been around here recently, I am busy with my works so recently so I haven't got many idea about what to share here. The only interesting I have for this week is my experience on trying a new Nasi Padang Outlet

A few days ago I visited a place where I might have future project on that area. Later on I found out that my potential client was not a straight forward guy, I disliked to address people as liar or impostor because some of them might do that as part of the job. So I would not blame him, but I was quite disappointed because he didn't admit it until I showed my face right in front of his nose.

I saw shop house selling Padang Cuisine, or we called it as Nasi Padang (Padang Rice Hut) outlet. The name was Cinto Minang, which meant Love Minang. For your information, although this is not 100% correct, we can say that Minang is a tribe of people who are originated from Padang. More or less, you can say Minang and Padang are about the same.

The place looked clean and I saw none was dining in there. I saw some online delivery bikes were coming there, so I thought maybe I should try that one too. Even if it would turn out as a bad one, I still had helped some local entrepreneurs lol

So this was my order. I ordered a simple Nasi Padang with deep fried lung as the main dish. I did not order any side dish because I did not know how much they would charge me lol. Yes that was the bad side when you came to some local outlet here, many of them did not show their price list and if you asked too much they thought you were a nasty stingy people lol.

For my meal here, I would say that the portion was decent, maybe a bit lacking. Usually small Padang Hut like this gave a massive portion of rice and vegetables, as they thought they needed to compete with the famous bigger outlets. But this one was different, maybe due to lack of competition in nearby area. Well, they were the only Nasi Padang Outlet around there.

The taste? I liked their fried lung, the rice was ok. However the green chili paste was too salty. Maybe they had started to rot? lol... I did not know how or why, but it was too salty. I complained later when I paid the bill.

The sweet ice tea was great. Maybe it tasted great because the weather was hot and I was in bad mood due to meeting that person. They did not try to scam me with massive ice cubes although the ice cubes were quite a lot too... but I took ice cubes less than half of the glass as a good will of serving ice tea lol

The price was exceeded my budget, which was 1.5 USD. They cherged me 1.6 USD for this meal, and the ice tea took a big part for my overbudget lunch. That ice tea alone costed me 0.4 USD, a pricey one but I could understand if they charged me that much. Most people in Jakarta sells Sweet Ice Tea around 0.3 to 0.45 USD, so it was not the most expensive one.

Well I have failed to get my lunch on budget, but I guess it's still ok. At least I know a good place to visit again one day, and hopefully if that opportunity comes , they would not serve me that salty chili paste again lol.

Thank you for coming and reading my post. I live in Jakarta, Capital City of Indonesia. I used to live by making money online, that's why I like being here, on HIVE, and in #PIMP - (Paper In My Pocket) community. Feel Free to leave any comment below

At least they got the price right and the tea was good! Never tried fried lung, it may be an acquired taste. The chili looks awesome but a shame it was too salty. Sounds like they didn't do a great job, but at least it wasn't expensive!

lung is great, you can deep fry or styr fry it. However the older we get, we should avoid or limit any offal we can have. So you should try them before you get really really old lol

It would have been okay, but the chili paste is too salty. Maybe they just prefer a stronger salty flavor in their tribe, that’s only my assumption.

Still, I’m happy that you really support local entrepreneurs.

they put more salt into it, to preserve the chili paste longer. It's a common practice here

The food looks tasty! 😋 It's always fun trying a new place, even if it goes slightly over budget. Hopefully the chili paste is better next time.
