The Risk Of Employing 1 Damage Attackers

Welcome (back) to my weekly splinterland post here. As usual, I am sharing my experience in playing Splinterlands regularly every week. My condition has got a lot better, so i can play well recently. Health is important, you can't enjoy any game if you are not feeling well at all.

Ok let focus on our splinterlands games now. Today I am sharing my thought, or my opinion about a condition that is very risky, I call it The Risk of Employing 1 damaeg attackers.

The I got this idea after I saw an interesting battle on my activity history. There was a battle on my modern rank, which I saw two interesting point there.

  1. My opponent had higher ranking, he had 1710 point when I had only 1660. This was a silver 1 league modern rank battle anyway.
  2. In a glance, I should be the one who lost this battle. I came with 5 units, and I saw nothing special on my line up. Meanwhile there were a few great cards rooming on his roosters. He even used legendary summoner.

So I gave my time to look up the battle and figured out, the main reason they lost that battle against me was due to 1 damage attackers.

We are entering the battle discussion here, as you can see above, they have full team and I do not. It's 36 mana anyway, it's decent, not small but not too big. Seeing the line up, we can say my opponent tries to exploit range damage from their two core units:

The first one is this, Bren Palesworn. He is a great choice with his sneak ability, he would attack my rear units. The only bad thing on him is the weapon training ability. I do not see my opponent trying to exploit that ability, so it is left useless there.

The second one is this Sylvaran Sentinel. I think my opponent makes a big mistake in placing this tree not in the most behind one, because this tree has a camoulfage ability. He should not worry about it anyway, because none could attack this tree.

Each of these two units would deliver 4 damage per round, which combined into 8 damage per round. That's a massive one, however what about the rest 4 units? That's their problem, because the rest of them only deliver 1 damage. Those damage will be easily negated either by my shield ability or other ability.

I have Anasth Soothsayer in my line up, she has Look out ability that will take out 1 less damage from attackers with sneak, snipe, and opportunity. This is one of the reason why they would lose badly, because Anash Soothsayer negates many sneak attacks, which is only 1 melee damage. She also negates poison ability by cleanse them, and she will keep healing my tank.

I am not saying my opponent is a bad one, I believe his meta is not that bad. However having many 1 damage attackers has a big risk, and the risk is having those attacks negated by Lookout and Shield ability. Void could negate the 1 damage magic attack too.

In the end, when he gets into this condition, which his core unit, the range unit with heavy blow, gets trapped in main tank position, it's all over for him. The unit won't be able to attack anymore and their team become a punching bag.

So remember guys, although the whole idea is to develop a team with a good attack power, having too many units with 1 attack damage only bears a risk of getting negated a lot. It makes your team losing momentum, and when your core units get locked down, you are guaranteed to lose the battle.

Agreed. I used to fall victim to this when I had a full team of 1 damage.
