Hunting Some New Nasi Padang Outlet

I have posted twice about Soto, a traditional Indonesian soup... And I won't post about SOTO or SOUP third time in a row. Seriously I have the material, but I think it is too excessive posting SOTO again consecutively. Indonesia has many Soto recipe, but not this way to tell about them LoL

I like to eat Nasi Padang, or in English it is a Minang cuisine rice dish. Padang is a region in East Sumatera, they are famous for their spicy foods and their food outlet are easily found everywhere in Indonesia.

In general we call any Padang Cuisine as Nasi Padang. In this opportunity I will share a habit of mine, which is hunting and trying some new Nasi Padang outlet. Each nasi padang outlet has their own personal taste, so you can not find two place with same identical taste, except those that are the same franchise brand.

I have seen this place a couple of times because by happen I drove my car passing their outlets. So a few days ago I decided I would have my lunch there. I decide to do that because I often saw that place was very packed during the lunch hour. So at least a bunch of people think that place is a good one yah? else it would not be full of visitors.

So this was my order for my lunch. I asked them for a ramesan, or mix rice which meant that I did not wish to have all foods shown on my table, but I would come to the counter and pick my own menu directly. Most people love to ask saji or having all food served in front of them for picking up the food, but I am not because I am... STINGY!!

I prefer to pick my food in front, knowing how much they will cost me, then wait at the table for the serving.

This outlet is a classical one, they serve my rice with boiled cassava leaves and a jackfruit curry. Anyway Padang Cuisine are mostly dominated by some curry flavors, and I just read someone posted about curry dish. She was @maulidar and this was her recent post about making a Curry for her son:

The most favorite menu in Nasi Padang is Daging Rendang, or Rendang Beef. Rendang Beef is a slow cooked beef meat simmered with caramelized coconut milk. I would not talk about Rendang today, because my main dish was not Rendang. It was this Sotong:

Sotong is Cuttlefish, it is similar to Squid, but they have sorter and rounded body. In general I prefer Squid over Cuttlefish but most Padang Food will use cuttlefish because they are softer and tender, and of course they are cheaper here.

The Cuttlefish is served as curry-cuttlefish. The cuttlefish looked so fat, but actually they put some eggs and tofu inside its belly to make it look bigger and people who eat them would not feel getting scammed.

Is this my favorite Padang Food? of course not, my favorite is Cow Brain and Cow Lung. However both were sold out because I came too late. I had my lunch at 2 PM, and this outlet was really selling well, most of their menu were gone sold out.

I might revisit again in future, because actually the taste is OK, not bad, a bit above average.

My side dish is this curry cracker, yes it is another Curry lol. We call this one JANGEK, some people call this krecek because we name it krecek in Java region. Jangek is actually a cracker made from Beef Skin. It is sold usually in plastic bag, and served by pouring some curry sauce on top of them.

This Jangek is rich in Collagen regarding they are actually a beef/cow skin. However do not expect them to be cheap, it's quite pricey. Personally I recommend Jangek as a one must have to on top of your table, your journey of having a Padangese Cuisine won't be completed before you have this Jangek.

OK before I close this post, I have to admit that the place is selling a very good food. They are not famous one, but for the taste it is more than good. That's why I do not censor their picture, because I think they deserve some endorsement for their food.

Anyway their food is not cheap but far from expensive. I got around $2.5 for that one, which previously I thought it would be around $3.5 regarding I ordered Jangek and Sweet Ice Tea.
