Funny Duo ~ The Epic Ladies Combo
Greeting Summoners
In this post, I would like to share some funny combo that I have found in Splinterlands. There are many combo, many meta, epic or game changer decks, and many more, but I think this one is more interesting, because they are not great, not even decent, but somehow I often win while employing them.
Let see the first one then
Thanalorian Blade from Earth Element. She has an armor and a lookout ability, so in general we see this one as more like a defender. This card is a good one but not special, because of her small damage. The good thing is that she has execute ability which help her launches the second killing blow when hitting a near death target.
The second one is Olivia of The Brook. She is exquisite, one of a kind. Not a great one but with some proper meta, she could be super strong due to her Mimic ability. Without her mimic ability, she is nothing. What can we get from her? small health point, so so speed, and weak attack damage.
I like Olivia of the brook a lot because I often use defensive meta. as the longer the battle has progressed, the stronger she gets because she is copying other cards's abilities as her own abilities.
WHY THEY SHOULD NOT BE COMPATIBLE
So overall both of them are similar... rewards cards of Rebellion edition, 6 mana requirement, an opportunity melee attacker. one from earth, another one from life element, and here are why people, including me, believe they are not a good match in same team:
- Small damage. There is no exact rule that having a small damage card or non attacking card will make us lose the battle. However the more weak attackers we have, we are losing momentum and we could get killed first before making a killing. Getting 2 weak attackers together, definitely a high risk move.
- Both are defensive. Let's face it, they are strong when the battle last longer, however having too many defensive cards or supports, will make our team looks like a sandbag or punching bag. We keep getting hits more. Honestly, for this part, I had a conclusion before that playing both of them together was stupid.
Ok then what we are talking now?
SOMEHOW THEY KEEP WINNING LOL
Let me put a disclaimer first
This is just an experience sharing, not sharing a valid super strong meta
ok here the fact. Recently I often play them together due to the summoner I have rented. I use them together for fun, sometime I like to do some experiments just to kill my boredom.
Why do I keep getting a good winrate with them? I honestly not sure 100% but if I may give my hypothetic here, there are a couple of reasons for this:
- Less people anticipated opportunity attackers in Modern rank battle due to the Conclave Arcana edition units. Unline the chaos legion and riftwatchers that have some outstanding Opportunist, conclave arcana cards are morelikely focusing on sneak attacks.
- Nobody... maybe very small number of people have a thought that someone might pair them in the line up. Frankly speaking here, if we come with lame line up but exactly has a meta that our opponent is not compatible with... we will win!!
HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE
Ok let me share you how they could bring me a win here. I pick this battle for reference.
I will not discuss the battle in detail, you can see it for yourself but allow me to show you some decisive point in that battle:
- Thanalorian Blade killed that Pirate of Eight in the first round, and that pirate hadn't got any chance to deliver blast damage at all
- In round 3 Thanalorian Blade did it again, this time she killed that Janni Rebel.
- Round four was the last one, they got swiped off this round.
Honestly I thought I would lose the battle due to the level gap, however turned out that my ladies duo owned the battle from the start. They made the kills first, maintaining the momentum and closed the battle with my team on superior position.
The key was simple, I believe my opponent did not expect to meet a double opportunity attackers here, they might have predicted before if we still used a chaos legion edition. They might expect facing a staked sneak attackers, regarding they used Janni Rebel in the backline.
However before you think this one is good, I have a feedback for you guys
Don't use them together when the mana cap is higher than 35
Somehow I see my pair of Thanalorian Blade and Olivia Of The Brook winning significantly when we are having a below 30 mana cap battle. I think that's the zone when most people won't think meeting a double opportunity attackers. Above 35 mana cap, there are many better cards to replace them anyway... I mean a lot better cards!
Anyway Thank you for your visit here. See you in Splinterlands Rank Battles!!!
