Another Soto That is Not Healthy - The Noodle and Rice Soup
Hello Asean Hive Community
Another week, another new post from me. I have too many ideas about what to write here, and turn up confusing myself and could not start properly. So after having some raw drafts, I decided to get back to what I often wrote about, FOODIE POST!!
Last week I wrote a post about SOTO. Soto is basically a traditional Indonesian Soup. There are many healthy soup out there however there are some that is not healthy. I have shared one before, and now I want to share another one.
If Soto Lamongan comes from East Java, this one comes from west Java... Let me show you the outlet which I get this dish. It is not something that famous, it just by happen near the road I use a lot.
Nothing fancy, right? The place is not so dirty anyway, so I think it should be ok to get this unhealthy soup. The dish itself is called SOTO MIE, which means noodle soup. I think I have made a post about this one somewhen in 2024, on my TACO TUESDAY post in FreeCompliment Community. I do not often eat this Soto because I can not endure their cracker...
So this is the Soto Mie I have ordered. You can see a tomato cut there, a spring roll, s psring onion and some cracker. I said above I can not endure these crackers, the reason will be spilled later in this post.
The core thing in Soto Mie is the mie, which in english it is the noodle. The noodle is the main part and the center of this soup. Some people like to add some vermicelli together with the noodle, I am one of those people anyway.
And of course as a South East Asian, I can eat everything with rice. it is something that a must, an identification of a person who born and grow up in ASEAN. So if you think having a noodle and a rice together will break your appetite, don't do it! This is just for the strong Asian one LoL
And I am not joking, we have this rice and noodle together LoL. I know for some people from other region, this is something that ridiculous. This is one of the ultimate calorie bombs. Actually there are other ingredients that have high calories, such as spring rolls and vermicelli. Do you spot those vermicelli?
Vermicelli is made from Rice, it is the smaller noodle with white or transparent color. We can say that I have two kind of rice on that plate lol
Of course the soup is not only carbohydrate, fat and sugar only. It has some meat inside, so at least protein wise is not that bad. But in general, Soto Mie does not have beef meat, it has more like offals or innards for the protein source. So they have a very high cholesterol content, for that reason I ordered mine with only meat content.
And for this reason too you will see this Soto Mie is hardly found sold on a cheap price. Beef is not something cheap here.
Anyway those crackers are actually Melinjo, we call it emping. I do not know Melinjo or Belinjo in English, google says it is gnetum gnemon, a peanut which is commonly found everything in Indonesia. I do not know how to describe them physically, because they are smashed and fried as crackers. Better you googling it later.
Emping is one of a great food for nutritions. It has a very high proteins and fiber, for some people might think this is a super food because it has a good amount of vitamins and minerals too. However one thing you need to remember, no matter how good Melinjo is, based on all those AI and Google search, Melinjo is undeniable a food which has very high PURIN. I mean very very very high Purin. So bear in mind, you might die after eating this excessively lol
So what do you think about this Soto Mie? is it a yay or a nay? you are free to leave your comments below. And If you have a similar dish with this one, do let me know ya. I might go hunt them later, regarding I like to try new dish.
Ok that's my Food story today, have a good day everyone!

I've been to Indonesia, but I don't think I have Soto Mie. It's a yay for me, I would love to try it, it looks so yummy!
Sometimes comfort food isn’t about being healthy—it’s about feeling home. Even if it's just noodles, rice, and broth, it fills more than just the stomach.
