Another PHO Story...

Hello Asean Hive Community

Today I will share another foodie post, the usual thing I keep doing here on Asean HIVE Community. But this one is a bit different, it is a response or an idea I have got after reading @viviehardika post here: https://ecency.com/@viviehardika/my-first-pho-in-vietnam.

I have visited many PHO outlet recently, well exactly in the last three months. I liked PHO a lot in the past, before Covid. I often ordered is and tried several places, but since Covid came I had not eaten them anymore due to the price. Yes, PHO is not a cheap one here.

The place I visited here had the highest rating among all PHO restaurant in Jakarta - Indonesia. So I could expect they were the best, right? This place was not the first one I visited in this year, there were other places too.

However I kept this one in draft, because I visited with someone I knew from some dating app and it ended up not well. So I could not use some of the pic I had stored in my disk.

Talking about the price, it was not the highest one. I could name two other places that had higher or more expensive price. For a couple people, they charged 263.000 Rupiah or around 13.6 USD. It was not something that expensive, but far from cheap.

Anyway the name BO TAI means sliced beef, but in Indonesia you should not yell BO TAI - BO TAI recklessly. It has different meaning, but I could not explain it... I will let uncle @happyphoenix and uncle @ekavieka to explain what is BO TAI in Indonesia if you are curious about it... hopefully you are not!

So this was my PHO, it was PHO BA BA DAC BIET. The most expensive one but it looked so plain. I was a bit skeptical before, but the soup turned out to have a great taste.

Later I found out that the place had higher rating because people believe it was more delicious than the other brand due to having LARD in their dish. Yeah the lard made the soup more tasteful however it did not make much difference. Usually in Ramen or Chinese Lamian, we could taste a huge different from dish that use lard and which are halal. But not for PHO, the different is very small.

There are various way to enjoy PHO, however all are depended on how well you know your taste and make a mix of herb and veggies on your PHO soup. Some people love high acidity soup, and they add some squished lime to add it more. I like it too, but not too acid because I have GERD issue lol.

And I do not like plenty of vegetables and herb. So as you can see above, I only added some cut of red peppers, lemon basil leaves and beansprout. at that time, I tried new leaf, it was Culantro or we called it Daun Walang Sangit. it was a hard, thorny and very bitter. It was a bad decision from me, but It was a good experience on the other part, as I never tried it before.

The only disappointment I had on that outlet was my side dish. I ordered fresh spring roll or GOI CUON TOM. I liked deep fried spring roll more than fresh spring roll, however deep fried spring roll would not give me Vietnamese dish experience at all lol.

To be honest, the Goi Cuon Tom was one of the worst I have tried in this year. The best one was this : https://ecency.com/@dewabrata/visiting-a-trending-vietnamese-restaurant , I have shared there. The PHO on this PHO BA BA was better than the Mi Mie Dang, but the spring roll was worse. Maybe I should say both are equal now.

Ok that's my food story today inspired by a ms Vivie Pho post. See you next time and take care yourself!
