Your Crypto, Your Responsibility, No Safety Net

I want to talk to you about something that’s still confusing for so many people, even though it’s 2025 and you would think everyone is used to crypto by now.

Crypto wallets.

I have seen over and over that the average new user is totally lost the first time they set one up. It’s not because they can’t follow instructions. The truth is, most of us grew up with normal bank apps where you have a login and if you forget your password, you can just reset it with your email. But a crypto wallet is a totally different safe.

If you lose that seed phrase, your coins are gone for good. No helpdesk, nobody to call, nothing you can do to get it back. I don’t think most people realize this until it happens.

When I started with crypto I didn’t even understand what a private key was, I just saw everyone posting about MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Phantom and the rest. They made it sound so easy so I set up a wallet and wrote down my phrase, but tbh I didn’t treat it like a life-or-death secret. Then a year later I changed phones and tried to reinstall my wallet. That’s when I understood the difference between a password and a recovery phrase. I couldn’t find the phrase and I had a mild panic attack because a few hundred dollars worth of coins was just gone unless I found that paper.

Most people don’t have to deal with that with their banks. You lose your bank card you call the bank they fix it. Crypto doesn’t have that safety net and I feel like nobody explains this enough in plain terms to beginners. Well even if they do most beginners won't take it seriously until they lose a few bucks, so you might as well just let the tradition continue.

The responsibility is on you from the first second.

It’s the same with connecting wallets to apps and sites. You click sign, you think it’s safe, but you might sign a transaction that drains your wallet if you’re not careful. I know someone who connected their wallet to a site just to try a game, and their coins disappeared within minutes. They blamed the wallet, but the obvious truth was just a lack of understanding.

There is no undo button and customer support for blockchain mistakes.

I don’t say this to scare you, but if you’re starting out, be a little paranoid about your recovery phrase, treat every connection as risky and never assume you can fix a mistake later.

This space rewards people who pay attention and it’s brutal for anyone who doesn’t.

That’s just what crypto is.
