Rain and Cabin Fever

While a lot of people find it to be a total bummer when it rains, I have never been bothered by rainy days.

The last couple of days have been thus...

Similarly, I never had an issue with so-called "cabin fever" as I have never had a shortage of things to do while inside.

I remember back when I was getting ready to move from Austin to the Pacific Northwest, my friends all thought I was nuts to be moving to a place where "it rains all the time."

Of course, it doesn't rain all the time here... but the prospect of getting stuck inside for a while — as something negative — never even entered my mind!

I became really aware of what a challenge it can be for some people to be stuck in the house during Covid lockdowns, where many were losing their minds because they couldn't leave the house and go do stuff.

Truth be known, the whole lockdown thing was cool because it gave me a legitimate reason to just stay at home and not have to interact with the world.

But I digress...

I suppose not minding rainy days that keep us inside is a combination of having lots of interests and not being concerned with having to keep your own company. I know the latter was one of the major things that drove people nuts during Covid.

When I was a kid, we always had a whole trunk filled with jigsaw puzzles, which was plenty to keep me occupied and content.

All these years — and a lot of technology — later, I still don't just head for the nearest electronic screen when stuck inside... I have no shortage of things to do that don't involve computers or smartphones.

In many ways. I am very grateful to my parents for teaching me how to entertain myself, as early as age 4-5. Since we traveled so much and would move from place to place, I often found myself in places I did not know, with none of my familiar stuff around... so I made up my own games.

It has translated into adulthood in which boredom is really not an issue, including on rainy days like today. And yesterday...

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!
