Another One Bites the Dust!

Happy Halloween!

And with that, we have come to the end of yet another month. No trick-or-treaters came around, mostly on a count of the pouring rain and stiff wind that have been dominating the landscape all day, today.

I am smiling wryly to myself as I am thinking that I feel disappointed that I am feeling disappointed about yet another month in this year of our Lord 2025! Any cryptogeeks out there who believed in the idea that October means UP-tober better sober up.

Meanwhile, I find myself living in a country that has now had a shut doen government for 30 days. I tried to explain this to one of my cousins back in Denmark, and he was pretty much dumbfounded by the whole thing... given what I know about him, about Denmark and the Danish mindset, I think the hardest to fathom thing for him is that the government wouldn't be working for the benefit of the people.

It's funny how the world turns.

In denmark, people trust the government, and with good reason. In the USA, people don't trust the government, and with good reason.

Although nothing is cast in stone yet, I do know that we will (most likely) join the ranks of the uninsured — with respect to healthcare — next year. The the Affordable Care Act is not extended (which the current administration does not want to do) our monthly health insurance premiums will likely rise to somewhere in the region of about US $3,000 per month, and that's not even for particularly good care.

There's no way in hell we can afford that, unless we give up food, electricity, Internet, phone and driving a car. Do the math!

$36,000 per year is more than many people's gross income before taxes! How on Earth is that supposed to functionally work?

Time to be reading up on those old-time home remedies!

Meanwhile our Hive is rotting, sitting at around the lows we saw in early 2021, and not terribly far from driting into a sustained all-time-low situation.

Don't get me wrong, I love this community and the whole idea, but I fear it has all gone in a very undesirable direction... perhaps chasing the wrong priorities. I am cautiously hopeful that some of the recent ideas that surfaced at HiveFest will actually be put into action.

From where I am sitting, the problem with crypto — and not just Hive — is that it has skated by fior far too long with projects having no idea of such things as revenue and profit and hope to operate like there's an actual business. Far too much "pie in the sky!"

Hopefully November will be better... I could use a bit of positive news.

These are definitely strange times in which we live...

Everything your government does baffles us in the UK, it’s all so destructive, divisive, pretty damn horrid. I really do feel for you. I fear that the UK is heading in a similar way, Starmer is making less and less sense and the papers convince us the dreadful Trump-like Reform party will be the next to run the country because let’s face it, they’ve a lot of friends in the media. I hate it so much. Our NHS is crumbling and people are turning to private care more and more. The insurance situation in the U.S. is mental.

We all need to be more Danish I reckon.

Sometimes it feels like the whole world is going mental.

I really hope the UK doesn't follow down the road the US has chosen... because this place is getting outright scary. I can't believe Reform is gaining substantial traction over there... very sad.

I’m genuinely scared for all Americans and ex-pats like yourself and we all know what happened in the 1930s, I despise the right-wing movement, it’s as ugly a thing I’ve ever seen and terrified of the world our grandchildren will inhabit. Aurelia, the oldest, is a very kind girl, she hates those who are mean to others and I hope she stays that way into adulthood but will have to learn how to be strong, to defend herself because I worry she might be alone in her ways versus a world of greedy, me-first people.

Or… will her generation turn that on its head? When you think about it the right-wing contingent are mainly middle aged and up. I think they are mostly angry people who believe aggression and one upmanship are the way to go.

I don’t buy that. I’m a soft middle aged lefty!!

Hopefully Reform will fail to make much traction when the next election comes around.

If they get in I’m moving my entire family to Scotland or Ireland!!

That was a very high increase for the health insurance and I think it is one of the many reason's why many American citizens leave USA and choose Asia especially Philippines because of the low cost of living.

I feel for you and your sentiments hit the heart in so many ways. I hope that they find a solution for the health care or too many people are going to suffer dearly. No one can afford that kind of money monthly!

I too was hoping for "Uptober", but alas, I think crypto in general is following a whole new pattern compared to the early days when everyone watched Bitcoins patterns. It is still a very young revenue and very volatile; perhaps 2026 will bring us some gains with an #altcoin season and bring #hive up with it. Best regards to you and your family in the coming year.
