All Good Things... (Must Come to an End?)

The old truism says that "all good things must come to an end."

I often wonder about that... it has definitely held true, in my own life... and these days it seems like more than a few people are pondering this, in relation to our Hive Community.

What is at the end of YOUR rainbow?

I've often thought the "all good things" truism was a bit odd in the sense that bad things seem more likely to drag on for an eternity. I guess we just can't have "nice things!"

Of course, where you have light, you will typically also find darkness.

The funny/sad thing about "good things" seems to be that as soon as they manifest, everybody wants to get on the bandwagon... and as soon as that happens, it's that very action that marks the beginning of the demise. Many "good things" can only remain good when there's a limited audience.

Even consider that amazing local hamburger place... as soon as it gets noticed and rapidly expands to multiple locations the quality that made it "amazing" often goes out the window, and the "good thing" comes to an end.

It's certainly not something specific to Hive — although, let it be said that I'm not entirely sure Hive is about to meet with its demise — it's something I have experienced with all good things in my life, without fail.

We typically have no say, and no control, in the matter. My original art gallery primarily failed because a 24-month highway construction project made it all but inaccessible. The best job I ever had ended because the founding brothers of the company ended up suing each other and the company went bankrupt. My beach combing business died because someone watched me, noticed I was making money, and then everybody wanted a slice of the pie... till the pie was completely gone. My paper collectibles business was made redundant by the online era, and my the fact that my customer base basically "aged out.".

That's not a litany of complaints, it's simply the facts.

Perhaps the assertion that bad things seem to last forever is a bit of an overstatement, but — on the balance — heavy periods seem to have outweighed good periods by a factor of about 3-to-1.

Perhaps what makes it all feel so exhausting — on a personal level — is the fact that I have the sort of personality that would just as well have everything be unspectacularly constant rather than a wild rollercoaster ride... even though that is not really how the world of 2026 operates.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week ahead!
