The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men
Well, I was prepping a new haiku to share with you last night, a dark one from Issa from an especially dark time in his life, but as they say... life gets in the way. Or maybe it's life finds a way. Aw — can't be bothered to look it up, whatever. The point is, the life getting in the way for me last night was my kids who were refusing to go to bed. By the time I finally got my youngest to get to bed it was 11pm, and my writing time was basically over.
So I don't have that for you this morning. Which is last night for all you people on the far side of the world. Time zones are funny. I'm in your future. But many of you won't read this until your morning, which will be my evening, when I'll be hopefully writing that haiku post, unless kids get in the way again.
In lieu of that post, I thought I would throw together a small bit on Star Trek. Yesterday, I posted some Star Trek Parody songs, so Trek is on my mind. Specifically, Star Trek II, which is the best of the movies, so good that it transcends Star Trek and is just a great movie on it's own. Then coincidence stepped in and one of the podcasts I subscribe to did an episode about Space Seed, the TOS episode that introduced Khan, the main baddie of Star Trek II.
I don't remember clearly, but Star Trek IV may have been my first Trek movie in theaters. My dad thought it would be harmless enough to take a 6 year old to — I think I was 6 at the time... it came out in 84, right? Ah again, I can't be bothered to look that up — so I went with him. I think I must have been bored by the middle because I don't remember it at all; I only remember Spock doing his lessons with the computer on Vulcan at the start of the film and I remember the Bird of Prey crashing into the harbor at the end of the film.
The next one I watched was Star Trek II. It was an imperfect copy, one my dad made off TV on one of the early VCRs. Again I have almost no memory of most of the film. I just remember Spock dying[1].
Years later after I got into TNG as a teenager, I came back and rediscovered the movies and learned to enjoy them. Star Trek II naturally led me to go back to watch the episode that introduced Khan. Except in those days you couldn't just order up the episode, you had to wait till it was on rerun. So it seems like I ended up watching most of TOS while I waited to see Space Seed, and in doing so, I came to enjoy TOS as well, inferior as it was to TNG.
Well, that was a ramble and a half. Like a trip to Albuquerque. All I had wanted to do when I started this post was share a modern trailer that I found for Star Trek II. And...here you go. Enjoy!

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone
I've been labelled a lot of things on Hive 😂 by the biggest farmers scammers and downvoters
Actions speak louder than any words do especially when them words are coming from a compolsive liars

Star Trek II was absolutely the peak Trek film. The Motionless Picture was a letdown, but Wrath of Khan had everything: action, introspection, drama, suspense, high-concept sci-fi... and it went downhill since.

IV was the one with the whales. The one where they go back in time. You are probably thinking of III maybe. The Search for Spock after the genesis thing hit the planet in II. I think my two favorites are probably II and VI. Of the original ones anyway.
Yeah, it was IV. Remember, at the start of the film before they vote to return to earth and face court martial and end up traveling in time to save the whales, Spock is at the computer in a cave doing his reeducation when his mother comes in and persuades him to rejoin Kirk.
Ah, okay. I guess I don't remember that part, but I know I have seen every trek movie in the theater starting with wrath of Khan.
The Wrath of Khan was a good movie! I don't remember the original episode introducing Khan, but my memory isn't what it used to be. TNG was by far a better series though, I agree.
You might go back and rewatch it. The pacing is weird, with Khan not even showing up until 15 minutes in. But the pacing on TOS is always weird. Otherwise, it's a great episode.
