Miracles, Wolves, and Doo-Wop Harmony: A 3-Song Mix for the Soul
Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let’s go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.

As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendations.
Today’s three tunes might seem a little random at first glance, but together, they trace a line through hope, desire, and nostalgia.

Mike & The Mechanics – All I Need is a Miracle
A song about regret and redemption, wrapped in a pristine mid–80s pop sound that only Mike Rutherford and Paul Carrack could craft. The lyrics carry the ache of someone who realizes too late what they lost, hoping for one more chance. There’s a quiet sincerity beneath the glossy synths, and Carrack’s voice sells every word.
It’s the kind of song that feels like driving down a wet highway at night, headlights stretching into the mist, thinking about all the could-have-beens.
Interestingly, Rutherford always claimed it was a happy song. Maybe for him! You may disagree, but the pop sound definitely tries to give it that happy sound, anyway.
Duran Duran – Hungry Like the Wolf
From reflection to pursuit — the hunt begins. This song practically sweats energy. Few tracks captured the MTV era as perfectly: neon lighting, exotic locations, and that mix of danger and desire.
It’s playful but primal, with Simon Le Bon’s vocal swagger and that infectious rhythm guitar snapping like fangs in the dark. I still think it’s one of the best-produced singles of the 80s. It’s sharp, alive, and cinematic.
Billy Joel – The Longest Time
And after all that motion, we land softly back in the past. Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time” is pure nostalgia — well, nostalgia for the music he grew up with anyway: doo-wop harmonies, finger-snaps, and a melody that feels like a time capsule. There was bits of that 50s resurgance in the 80s, and he was riding the wave with this one.
There’s no irony here, no gloss, just a man reflecting on love that endures, even when reason says it shouldn’t.
Lord, that sticks in your head. Maybe I shouldn’t have done this last…

So what’s your favorite of the three? Do you lean toward the miracle, the hunt, or the harmony?

Hahaha 😂 I always vote what's best
Nice selection of song brings a different vibethe energy of Duran Duran the emotion of Mike and The Mechanics and the timeless charm of Billy Joel..
I don't think I could vote on just one. Such a good selection of songs! I've always loved Mike and the Mechanics and Billy Joel is just timeless. I'd probably pick one of those two over the Duran Duran song.
