Covers with Soul: Three Tune Tuesday
Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.

Today I have another mix of different genres — and again, all covers. I seem to have been on a cover kick these past several weeks. Let's go!

Home Free - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
I don't think anyone can top Gordon Lightfoot on this song, but these guys do a great job. Their approach leans heavily on harmonies, which really gives it a haunted, echoing feel. The weight of the story still comes through, and that’s no easy task.
Pomplamoose ft. dodie & Maddie Poppe - It's the End of the World as We Know It
Another really interesting interpretation here. Like the first, this isn’t too far from the original, but they tweak their presentation just enough to be fresh. The original REM version is frantic and cluttered (by design) but this one smooths it out and adds a layered, almost whimsical quality. I think it works.
J.Fla - Heal the World
And now for something completely different.

To be honest, I’ve always liked this song. It’s a bit too idealistic even for rock stars, but even so, it paints a wonderful vision, and Jackson sings it with conviction in the original. J.Fla’s cover doesn’t try to reinvent it but delivers a heartfelt version that feels genuine.

So what's your favorite?

I can't say any of those songs really spoke to me, but you might be interested in Nouvelle Vague based on the last two.
I will do that!
I love listening to Gordon lightfoot. His voice is so soothing. They did a good job covering his song.
I agree.
I've always liked Heal the World as well, there's a feel good factor about it. It's the first time I've come across J.Fla, she gives the song a very nice warm vibe, gonna be check out her other stuff.
The second one - COVID was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thumbnail, then I checked the video on YT to confirm. Those were the days!
You know, I didn't even notice that. I guess I'm still on Teams so much for my work, that people singing together over the internet no longer strikes me as odd. How things have changed!
quite the sea chanty! :P
I hope it's NOT the end of the world..
I luv the last performance.
I hope it's not!
Ah, the Edmund Fitzgerald. It is a good song if not a bit long. They actually made the whole thing into a play too, did you know that? It's called Ten November.
I never knew about that. I'll have to look it up!
Yeah, they did it at the school here one year I think. If you ever get back to the states you should visit the shipwreck museum up at Whitefish Pointe in Michigan's UP.
Good old Gordon Lightfoot, it's been awhile... And outdoing his singing would be tough. They do a good job on the harmonies, I agree. It's the End of the World as We Know IT cover was great, they really slow it down and made it work. And J. Fla, wow, what a great performance! I think her Michael Jackson cover was my favorite of the day. Those were some great covers that you found, great work!
Glad you enjoyed!
