When the Mind Refuse to Flow: My Experience with Creative Block

There are times in life as students or even writers, when your brain just go blank, as if the switch got off. You sit down with your pen, laptop or phone, and nothing is coming out by trying in some effort and you try to push but the ideas just refuse to flow. This is what people call creative block or sometimes writer’s block.

I sha remember one particular time this thing happened to me. It was during a school assignment, to be sincere the time for the submission is against me, just a day and some hours to submission deadline and that assignment involve some technical calculation. The lecturer gave us a task in biology education that require solving statistics of experiment result. Normally I am not too bad with calculation, but that day was different. I sat for hours staring at the numbers, the formula, and I could not even start. It was like my head lock up.

At first I was frustrated, I keep shaking my head ups and downs, checking the course manual, even asking myself if I was really serious student. But later I realize this is just one of those creative block moment. It is not that I don’t know anything, it is just that my brain was tired and not flowing and I realize am just missing a single step of the calculation.

I had the experience and sincerely is not my first or neither it is my second time, from it I come to understand that creative block is normal. It can happen to anybody whether you are a student, artist or writer. The important thing is not to give up when it comes. Sometimes the best solution is just to pause, refresh your mind and then continue.

So whenever I meet that block again, even it may be in exam hall you don’t need to panic. Just remind yourself that ideas will come back, I just need to give your a little rest and mind breathing.
