Training the Young to Become a Leader

You see, one thing I’ve learned in life is that leadership doesn’t just start when someone gets a title or becomes a boss. It starts from how you think, how you act, and how you treat people. And that’s why training the young to become leaders early is very important especially in countries like Nigeria where many youths are just struggling to find direction.

Growing up here, most of us were told to obey and never question anything. “Just do as you are told,” they say. But the truth is, great leaders are not robots, everone is born to make mistake. They are people who can think for themselves, they take responsibility, and inspire others to do better, you are moved by their great words. I feel like our society sometimes forget that leadership starts with small things even how a person cleans their room, how they help others, or how they handle pressure.

Come to Korea, see how they invest so much in discipline and teamwork from a young age with effectiveness of becoming a leader. You can see it in their culture from schools to entertainment, even in how K-pop idols like BTS or Stray Kids work so hard together and still respect each other. That kind of dedication is what we need to teach our young ones too.

In Nigeria, we have plenty of smart kids and creative youths, very talented ones and so many of them don’t get guidance or mentorship. Some leaders are too busy enjoying power instead of passing wisdom. And that’s sad, because the youth are the next hope. We need to train them with honesty, courage, and empathy not just how to make money or shout orders.

Leadership is not about claiming position. It’s about service. It’s about standing firm when others are afraid. And if we start teaching that from childhood both in schools and homes then maybe the next generation won’t repeat the same mistakes we see today.

Nigeria and Korea may be far apart, but am sure of one thing connects us: both countries have very young and agile people full of potential. And if we guide them right, they can lead the world one day not with fear, but with wisdom and heart.
