The Habit That Change My Life
There is a moment in my life when everything felt stuck and very hard. I was waking up every day doing the same routine, complaining about how life wasn’t moving forward, but I wasn’t doing anything different myself. I used to blame why life is so hard on me for everything. I thought maybe one day everything will change on its own. But nothing changed until I picked one small habit that ended up turning everything around.
It started two years ago. I was scrolling online one night, feeling frustrated with myself and my life. I saw someone talking about how writing down your daily goals can change your mindset. At first I said, “Abeg, how can writing something on paper change my life?” But something in me said let me try it, even if it sounds stupid.
So the next day, I got one small notebook and wrote only three things I wanted to achieve for that day. Nothing big things like read for 30 minutes, learn something new, finish one task before sleeping. I didn’t take it serious, honestly. But when evening came and I saw that I actually did everything I wrote, something inside me felt small joy. Like I was finally controlling my life, not the other way around.
I continued the next day, and then the next week. Slowly, this small habit started affecting other parts of my life. I started waking up early because I wanted to complete my list. I stopped procrastinating small small. I started believing I can grow if I really try. It didn’t happen overnight, but I swear it changed my mindset forever.
The funny thing is, it wasn’t the goals that changed me it was the consistency. I started trusting myself and I started improving. I started proving to myself that I can follow through. I stopped waiting for motivation. Even when I was tired, angry, or sad, I still wrote my goals down and tried my best.
People around me even started asking, “What is it that has changed about you?” And I just smiled because the truth is, it wasn’t magic. It was one small habit.
Right now, I still write my daily goals. Sometimes I miss days, I’m human, I’m not perfect. But this habit taught me something bigger that life changes when you take responsibility for it. Small effort, repeated every day, can transform a person more than waiting for a big miracle.
