My Longest Hours Travel From O.A.U to Niger State

That day still remain fresh in my mind like it happen yesterday. It was our department excursion when I was in 400 level in Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U). We were told that we will be travelling from Ile-Ife all the way to Niger State for our field trip. When I first hear it, I was excited because I love travelling and seeing new places, but I didn’t know that journey will be the longest hours of my life.

We left school around 6:30 in the morning with our department bus, everybody was full of energy, singing, shouting and snapping pictures. At first, the trip was so fun. Some people were playing music, others cracking jokes. But after some hours on the road, the excitement begin to calm down. My back started paining me, my legs too. We still never reach Abuja by 2pm. That was when I realize Niger is far indeed.

We passed many towns, small villages and market areas. I was surprised to see how different some part of Nigeria looks. Some places were so dry, while some had green lands and hills. The scenery was beautiful, but the sun no be small thing that day. We stopped to buy snacks and water, and that small break felt like heaven.

By the time we finally entered Niger State, everybody was just tired and quiet. Some people already sleeping anyhow inside bus. I look through the window and just smile after almost 13 hours of travel, we made it. The moment we arrived, our lecturer laugh and said, “Now you all know what field experience mean.”

That trip teach me patience and endurance also learn that travelling long distance with friends can be both fun and stressful at same time. But I no regret going at all, because I saw new places, learn new things, and it was part of my school memory I will never forget.

When we were returning back to Ife after the excursion, everybody just agree silently that Niger trip is not for the faint heart.
