My First Earning, Small Money but Big Lesson
I still remember my first earning like it was yesterday, even though the money was very small. It was not salary, not business profit, just pocket money I worked for. But the feeling was heavy in my heart. Growing up, my parents always tell me that money has value when you sweat for it, not when it is just given freely. At that time, I didn’t really understand, I only nod my head like child do. But that first earning opened my eyes.
The money came from helping my uncle during school break. I was helping him clean his shop, arrange goods, and sometimes run small errands. It was tiring work for a young person like me. Some days my body will pain and I will complain inside my mind. When the time came and he gave me the money, it was not much, but my hand was shaking small when I held it. I felt proud in a strange way.

When I got home and showed my parents, my mother smiled and my father nodded like he already expected it. He told me, “Now you know how money feels.” That statement stayed with me. They did not rush me to spend it. Instead, they asked me what I plan to do with it. I wanted to buy snacks immediately, because that was what children think of first. But my mother advised me to save some part. She said even if it is small, saving builds discipline.

That day I learned something important. Money earned is different from money received. When I worked for it, I respected it more. I did not want to waste it anyhow. I even felt pain when I thought of spending it too fast. That was the first time I understood why my parents were careful with money. They were not stingy, they were wise.

The lesson from that first earning still follow me till today. Anytime I feel like wasting money, I remember that small amount and how proud I felt. It taught me responsibility early. It taught me patience. It taught me that nothing good comes easy, but effort makes reward sweeter.
That first pocket money was small, but the lesson was big. My parents moral teaching was planted inside that experience, and it keeps growing as I grow. Even now, whenever I earn anything, I still feel that same small joy inside, and I remember where it all started.
