My Craving for Korean Food (K-Food)

I don’t know about you, but anytime I watch a Korean movie or drama, the way they eat always me hungry to whatever extent. Even when I’ve just finished eating my Nigerian food, once I see them eating on screen, my stomach will still start to make small noise again.

I’ve never tasted any Korean food before like what does it feels like in the body, but honestly, I really want to. The way they present it looks so neat and colorful, like a painting and very funny though. The one that catches my eye most is Kimchi that spicy fermented cabbage they always serve beside almost everything. The way they eat it with chopsticks at times really amazes me and enjoy it like it’s the best thing on earth just makes me want to try it too. I heard it’s a bit sour and spicy, but I don’t mind. I love spicy food anyway; I’m Nigerian, we’re used to pepper.

Then there’s Bulgogi, that one looks so juicy. The meat looks soft and sweet, like suya’s Korean brother. And Bibimbap, the one they mix rice, vegetables, and egg together wo, the way they stir it in a big bowl makes it look like magic food.

Even their ramyeon (instant noodles), I don’t know why it looks so special on TV. Maybe it’s the way they slurp it loudly, or how they add eggs and vegetables inside, but it never looks like the normal indomie we cook here.

And don’t get me started on Tteokbokki (that red spicy rice cake). The color alone looks dangerous but delicious. I also see Hotteok (sweet pancakes) on some YouTube street
food videos I can almost smell it through my phone.

Koreans really take food seriously, and you can tell they cook with heart. I feel like eating K-food is not just about taste, it’s about culture it brings people together, just like jollof rice does for us here.

One day, I’ll try kimchi for real. I just want to know if it tastes as good as it looks on screen. Until then, I’ll keep watching K-dramas with my plate of rice, pretending I’m eating Korean food too.
