More Than Just a Game: My Life in Sports as a Student

Hello Hive Family,

Today, I love to talk about my line of passion, something that shaped a big part of my life which is sports.

Right from when I was a child, I loved playing. Whether it was playing around the compound, playing ball, or shooting hoops with friends, I always had energy for sports and exercise It was my escape, my joy, and over time, it became more than just a game to me, it is part of me.

Right from my secondary school I have been super active about sports especially football to the extent am the captain of the school team in our set.
Then I got into Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U), I didn’t stop. In fact, it became more serious. I joined the school teams for both football and basketball. Some people were surprised like how could you manage but they thought I was doing too much, balancing sports with a tough course like Microbiology not easy. But for me, playing those games helped me stay focused, healthy, and mentally strong.

Football taught me passion and patience. There were days we trained under the hot sun,see days we lost matches we thought we would win it pains, and even days we got injured it felt like it won't recover. But we kept going. I remember one match where I missed a very close goal. I felt terrible, like I had failed the whole team. But my teammates supported me, and we bounced back in the next game. Though I thought I failed them but that taught me something big you don’t have to be perfect to keep moving forward.

Basketball, on the other hand, taught me about quick thinking and teamwork. You can’t win in basketball if everyone wants to shine alone it requires a team plan to win. You must pass the ball, defend for your team, and celebrate even when it’s someone else who scores. I learned how to trust people and work with them, even when we didn’t fully agree and sometimes it difficult to understand each other.

Being a student-athlete wasn’t always easy. There were times I had to rush from the field to catch a lecture or stay up late reading after a long day of training but always try to keep the balance and sometimes I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. Sports gave me confidence, helped me make good friends, and made my university years more fun and memorable.

Even now, when life gets stressful, I still go back to those memories. They remind me that I’m strong, I’m capable, and I can overcome anything with discipline and help my mindset.

To anyone reading this, I want to say find something that brings you peace, engage in what you love doing and gives you strength it doesn’t have to be sports, something you enjoy doing. Life is not just about surviving. It’s also about enjoying the little things that make you feel alive.

Thank you for reading my post today. Let’s keep learning and growing together.
