Doing the Best You Can With What You Already Have

There is a season in life that many of us don’t talk about openly. It’s that period where you don’t have everything you wish for, but you still have something in your hands. Instead of thinking not enough money, not enough tools, not enough connections… but just enough to start something small. That season can feel frustrating if you don’t understand it.

I’ve been in that place more several times than I can count. I sat and look around and have the feeling like others have better opportunities, better support, better everything. It’s easy to complain in that moment. I used to do that too, quietly in my mind. Asking myself why things are not easier.

But I remember something my mother used to say, “Use what you have before asking for more.” At that time, I didn’t take it seriously. I thought if I had more, I would do better. But life has a way of teaching you slowly to learn and to have experience.

There was a time I wanted to start something, but I kept waiting. Waiting for better equipment, better timing, better understanding. And honestly, nothing happened. I was just waiting. One day, I decided to just try with what I had, even if it wasn’t perfect. The result was not amazing, but it was something. And that “something” gave me confidence to continue.

That’s when I realized, this season is not about comfort. It’s about creativity and discipline. When resources are small, your thinking becomes sharper. You learn how to manage, how to adjust, how to find ways around problems. It’s not easy, but it builds strength.

My father always believed that limitation can be a teacher. He would say, “If you can do well with little, you will do better with more.” I see the truth in that now. People who learn to manage small resources often grow into people who handle bigger opportunities wisely.

Of course, it’s not always smooth. There are days you feel tired of trying. Days you wish things were easier. That feeling is normal. But stopping completely doesn’t help either.

Making the best out of what you have doesn’t mean you should not aim higher. It just means you don’t stay stuck because things are not perfect.

This season may not look impressive from outside. But inside, it’s building something strong. And one day, when things grow, you will understand why this stage was necessary.
