Motherhood, a lifelong learning process / Maternidad, un eterno aprendizaje (eng-esp)

Greetings, friends.

I want to take this opportunity to introduce you to my reason for living: my son. He has been and continues to be the greatest joy of my life. I think only a mother truly understands what I mean.

The first joy came when I found out I was going to be a mother. The radiologist gave me the news, and I couldn't believe it. But I went from disbelief to joy very quickly: I thought, "I'm going to be a mother."

The first time I held my son, something immense and beautiful grew inside me. It was a love so powerful it's almost frightening. A love that has kept me dreaming ever since, with every smile, every hug, every "Mommy, I love you."

Then I experienced the greatest fear in the world: his first cold. That first sleepless night (like all the ones that followed) was indescribable. There are no words to describe the fear, even knowing it's something temporary or common. It doesn't matter; we're still scared.

But greater than that fear are the moments of joy. Joys like those first steps, the first words, the first games, and all the other firsts.

Well, except for that first time we were separated when I dropped him off at school. He walked into the classroom, and it was like I'd been separated from a part of myself.

But every little moment like that pales in comparison to the learning. There's nothing like watching my son learn to play baseball, soccer, learn to swim, and so on.

And the joys don't end there. Every day my son fills me with surprises. Every question is a learning experience. Every day I'm reborn as a new mother. Every day I learn and am amazed.

And best of all, there's so much more to learn.

Quiero aprovechar la oportunidad que estoy aquí para presentarles a mi razón de vivir: mi hijo. La mayor alegría de mi vida ha sido y es él. Creo que solo una madre sabe lo que esto que les digo.

La primera alegría fue al enterarme que iba a ser madre. La imageneóloga me daba la noticia y yo no podía creerlo. Pero pasé muy rápido de la incredulidad a la alegría: pensé Voy a ser madre.

la primera vez que cargué a mi hijo, algo muy grande y hermoso creció en mí. Fue un amor tan grande que da miedo. Un amor que me tiene soñando desde entonces en cada sonrisa, en cada abrazo, en cada mamá te quiero.

Luego conocí el mayor miedo del mundo ante el primer resfriado. Esa primera noche sin dormir (como todas las siguientes) ha sido inefable. No hay palabras para describir el miedo que se pasa, a pesar de saber que es algo pasajero o común. No importa, nos asustamos igual.

Pero mayor que ese miedo son los momentos de alegría. Alegrías como esos primeros pasos, las primeras palabras, los primeros juegos y todas las demás primeras veces.

Bueno, menos esa primera vez que nos separamos al dejarlo en la escuela. Él entraba al aula y era como si me hubiera separado de una parte de mi cuerpo.

Pero todo pequeño momento de este tipo se ve opacado por el aprendizaje. Nada como ver a mi hijo aprender a jugar baseball, fútbol, aprender a nadar, etc.

Y aún las alegrías no acaban. Cada día mi hijo me llena de sorpresas. Cada pregunta es un aprendizaje. Cada día me reestreno como aprendiz de madre. Cada día aprendo y me maravillo.

Y lo mejor de todo, quedan mucho más por aprender.
