Some of these cultural stuffs, like the masquerade thing goes far beyond the physical. Allow me to say they're diabolical in nature even, and that will only invite unprepared consequences to the children. I firmly agree with you. Not all should be discarded, there are basic and important ones, however some are off limits, with spiritual implications.
