Why Self-Custody?

We shouldn't have to explain this to the crypto world, but in an era of ETFs, treasury companies, and endless centralized L2s, something needs to be said.

Self-custody is the key to unlock every single benefit that decentralized digital cash has to offer. Without, it you can't have censorship-resistant transactions, truly global payments, funds fully in your control, privacy, or even a scarce store of value. All the benefits of this amazing technology simply go away.

Yes, even store of value doesn't happen long-term without self-custody. Without the blockchain's built-in provable auditability, any custodian, like an exchange, could claim to have far more of the asset than they actually hold. As long as volume is low enough and most users keep their coins on exchanges, they can essentially keep customer balances that don't necessarily have coins behind them. These are essentially, paper coins, diluting the demand for the asset across a significantly-inflated practical supply. This can keep the price artificially low.

Why Dash Especially Benefits from Self-Custody
