COUNTERFEIT SILVER COIN FROM 1806 (8 ESCUDOS?)
HAPPY DAY COLLECTORS AND LOVERS OF THE ANTIQUE
Here I am, starting early with coffee and a new post on @hivecollectors where I show one of my silver pieces, an old coin from 1806, which is counterfeit and, due to a lack of information, circulated through various countries in the Americas.
Investigating the coin with the naked eye, it is clear that it was not minted but rather cast. At that point, it is easy to determine the counterfeit. But there is another point that is even more obvious: the 8 escudos were not silver, but gold, so it was impossible for an official silver coin of this value to exist.
As you can see on the edge, the grooves are made by hand to hide them and prevent them from being flat.
As I said before, thanks to the lack of information, it circulated, and therefore, at least for a time, it must have been used, perhaps in rural areas where there was not much knowledge of which coins were real or not. What I was able to glean from the collector with whom I did business is that, based on the type of design, it must have been made in Mexico.
As you can see, Here you'll see the real one in gold with a little information at the link. From there I got the example of the royal gold coin

Anyway, a fake coin, but with an interesting story behind it. See you later today's post on #hive. I hope you all like it. See you soon.

If we do not know much about the subject or do not know how to identify a fake coin, it was easy to fall haha but if it circulated as real in the market, I guess it fulfilled its role 👀
Your copy still looks very convincing and attractive! I'd love to add it to my collection and touch it and enjoy owning such a vintage coin. 😎
