Greetings, Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding communities!

Today is a rather big day around here, as we celebrate Shadow's — aka "Curator Cat" — 10th Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Shadow!

It's hard to believe that the tiny kitten from the shelter — who got ill and almost died in his first week with us — has been with us for almost ten years!

Of course, once he got past his rather rocky start, he grew up to be a large and healthy cat.

Fun Fact: The Hoomans deliberately chose Shadow because he was black, because black cats and kittens typically take longer to get adopted, thanks to old superstitions.

Fun Fact: Shadow's short stubby tail is not the result of an accident — he was born this way. The litter of kittens that were dropped off at the animal shelter included two with full tails, two with "bobtails" like Shadow's, and one with no tail at all.

Our best guess is that he has some Manx or American Bobtail in his ancestry.

With new friends, last year!

When Shadow joined us, we already had BeBe — the white fluffy cat with dark spots on her back — but we had recently said goodbye to Kramer, our oldest cat.

In many ways, Shadow has almost turned out to be a reincarnation of Kramer.

Naturally, there were extra special treats today, and a double helping of breakfast... because it's important to celebrate special days!

The Curator Cat blog has been a part of Shadow's life for 8 of his 10 years, and hopwfully we'll have many more years of Shadow photos!

And now, I must go take a good birthday nap! The Hoomans just put freshly washed covers on the bed!
