Curator Cat: February is National Cat Health Month!
Greetings Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding communities!
I hope everyone has had a good weekend and feels ready to tackle another week, notwithstanding the chaos happening in the world and in the Cryptosphere.
So this post serves mostly an announcement and reminder that February is National Cat Health Month, at least here in the USA… although I don't see why it couldn't apply everywhere else!
I'm not entirely sure who started National Cat Health Month nor when it began but there is a lot of evidence to suggest that it was started during the same month as Valentine's Day as a reminder to care for the furry creatures you love.
Cat Health Matters!
Although the world has many many cats and they actually live in numbers greater than that of dogs, cat health is typically underrepresented in veterinary medicine. Part of the reason for that is that cats tend to be extremely good at hiding ailments when they don't feel well, and they may have things wrong with them that you wouldn't discover unless they were taken to the vet for a routine checkup.
So one good thing you can do to celebrate National Cat Health Month is to make an appointment to take your feline friends to the vet just for a basic health check up! I know a lot of people will likely think "why bother, they're perfectly fine" but wouldn't you rather know that they're perfectly fine as opposed to suppose that they're perfectly fine?
Of course, one of the reasons why many cat parents avoid taking their cats to the vet is the difficulty getting a cat into a cat carrier and in general having to deal with the distress of your favorite pet freaking out because they have to go somewhere. Dogs tend to be big on going anywhere for an adventure, while cats — with a few exceptions — are deeply suspicious of such activity.
Although we might not think of it, cat health also includes cats' mental health, not just their physical health.
And we can promote good mental health by taking the time to actually play with our cats on a regular basis.
Sadly, Hoomans generally take lots of time to play with their cats when they're kittens but as they grow up playtime gradually wanes... but we cats are natural hunters and like to chase things. Here at our place we do quite a lot of "catfishing" by attaching a favorite catnip mouse to a long string tied at the end of a thin wooden rod… And it's fun to watch your cat play!
Anyway, we encourage you to take a little extra time this month to consider your cat's physical — and mental — health... make sure you are doing what you can to keep your cat happy and healthy!
Thanks for visiting our little cat blog... and we hope to see you again soon!

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communities!
If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?
These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Many of the allow you to share your cat posts, even if you started at a different community!
HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!
Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!
Caturday by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!
Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS!
Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community.
There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!
