A Matter of Hope

Why do we choose to do a thing; anything?

Whether it's building a business, an investment portfolio or even a Hive profile and account, we are motivated by something.

Typically, people have a myriad reasons for getting involved in something... but it is hope that keeps them going: Hope that things will get better; hope that things will remain good; hope that we'll find happiness, riches, love or whatever it is we set out to find.

So, I find myself wondering about the point at which reasonable hope turns into so-called hopium, and we quietly sink into the quagmire of wishful thinking.

Consider Hive, for a moment.

It's perhaps a reasonable hope that the price of Hive won't fall a whole lot below its current $0.04-$0.05 range. After all, we've pretty much reached a point where publishing content here for money is close to being a waste of time.

Publishing for fun and for community and for friendship continues to make sense. And it would be reasonable to continue hoping for that.

Thinking that Hive is going to rebound to $1.00 by the end of the year is pretty much hopium. I don't see any scenario under whichthat would become a reality. Sure, back on the old chain in 2017, the token went from under seven cents to over seven dollars in a matter of 8 months. But that was a whole different world.

But that's all very local.

Hope matters a lot, in terms of what keeps us going in the greater world. What do we hope our futures will look like, 5 years, 10 years, 25 years down the road? What sort of world do we hope will exist?

Life — and the world — seems so turbulent and uncertain these days that I often struggle to see anything out beyond a year or two. I used to make 5-year and even 10-Year plans, but it seems like such a meaningless exercise, these days.

Does that mean that hope is dying?

Honestly... I don't know, but I find it harder and harder to be hopeful, in the long term. It feels like the lunatics are running the asylum, and it feels like there's a greater and greater chance that we might not even wake up tomorrow because the idiots pushed the fool button and blew everyone up.

Not really a healthy way to live, is it?

On the other hand, I do feel hopeful that perhaps tomorrow will be a nice day, and it's Caturday, that day when we post a lot of cat photos!

How do YOU feel about life, the world, and the stutus of hope?

Why do we choose to do a thing; anything?

Usually it's because it's better to do it than other thing. I think the choose is more like a compare between 2 or more.

Is it better to write a post or watch a movie? When posting at hive become worse than doing another thing for them they'll just stop usually. (I think)

I honestly don't know what I want out of life enough to make really long term plan a lot of the time.

Right now my hope for hive is "please rebound a bit?" and 'Please don't go below 2 cents"

Anything beyond that seems.. well, hopium.

I try to enjoy stuff day to day as much as possible but sometimes even that I hard.
