Immortalis Shatters My Expectations (and Opponent's Armor) in Wild Heavy Metal

Alright, strap in, because this one's a doozy. You know that feeling when you walk into a Wild tournament, ruleset "Heavy Metal: Only Armored Units," and you just know you've got something cooking? Yeah, me too. But even then, there are moments, little sharts of dread, when you see your opponent's lineup and think, "Oh, for f*ck's sake, that guy."

My latest adventure in the metal mayhem of Splinterlands Wild battles? Completely rocked. Immortalis, my main man, absolutely shattered my expectations, and, more importantly, my opponent's damn armor.

So, the setup "Heavy Metal" which means everyone's got armor. Not just a little bit, but everyone. My brain went immediately to Immortalis. Why? SHATTER. That beautiful, glorious ability that just laughs in the face of all that metallic nonsense. If everyone's forced to have armor, then forcing them to lose it is pretty damn high ROI, wouldn't you say? It's like bringing a nuke to a knife fight when knives are legally required.

Now, my line up because you're probably wondering how one even begins to combat triple-striking madness

  • Immortalis (Archon) The absolute MVP, giving everyone that sweet, sweet Shatter. Essential for dishing out the hurt in Heavy Metal.
  • Chain Golem (Tank) My favorite promo card, up front, soaking damage. This guy got me invested, so he gets the prestige spot.
  • Grumpy Dwarf (Reach) Because sometimes you just need a grumpy fella with some reach to chip away from the back.
  • Drybone Raider (Main Damage) This is where the magic happens. Double attack, double strike. One hit to shatter the armor, the next to go straight for HP. Chef's kiss.
  • Thanalorian Blade (Opportunity, Execute, Lookout) Another key player in the double strike combo. Opportunity means she's jumping around, picking off weakened targets, and Execute ensures they stay picked off.
  • Uraeus (Sneak) My favorite sneaker. Always good for surprise attacks from the shadows.
  • Halfling Alchemist (Support) Ah, another classic promo card. Halving, baby. When your opponent thinks they're safe nope!

But then the opponent. Talk about throwing the kitchen sink at me. This dude rolls up with Archon Lorkus. Archon Lorkus of all things. I'm telling you, I let out an audible groan. And then the piece de resistance Gramel the Hunger. Not just any Gramel, but a Gramel rocking a TRIPLE STRIKE. I had to do a double-take . Triple strike on a Gramel? Who even does that? I've seen some weird stuff in Wild, but this was next-level crazy. It was like he was trying to specifically ensure I'd piss myself.

So, on one side, you have me, with my grizzled, vintage card collection, ready to apply the SHATTER. On the other, you have a literal demon with a fetish for hitting things three times in a row, supported by a tactical powerhouse. I'm sure you know the feeling that moment of "Is this it? Is THIS where my brilliant plan goes belly up?"

For those of you who don't believe me, or just want to see Gramel get his comeuppance, you can check out the full battle replay right here. CLICK TO WATCH It's truly a thing of beauty.

Oh, and stick around for the final round in the replay. Seeing Gramel the Hunger get hit with Halving, only to be promptly put down with an Execute? That's worth the watch alone.

Conclusion? Nah. Not today, Big Dawg. My team, my glorious, "not modern" team, was victorious. And frankly, it felt damn good to hand Lorkus and his triple-striking buddy their asses on a platter. Sometimes, it just comes down to knowing your cards, even the old ones, and letting Immortalis do his shattering thing.

Immortalis has won me so many battles I thought I'd lose. Plenty of rulesets where he's not a great idea; like magic reflect, no magic, no armour etc.
But if the rulesets don't rule him out, he's my first pick 9 times out of 10.

I like him for magic only ruleset, that void ability is key there. how about that "Gramel the Hunger" didn't even know we had triple strike cards in the game, very OP

His scattershot RNG could've hit you harder there. Loved seeing the halfling alchemist nerf him across all 3 attack types. I really should go and max mine.
