How the Brazilian Teams Performed in the Libertadores Semifinal

The wait is over. The anxiety that gripped fans, longing for the semifinal dates to arrive, has finally arrived. The first two matches of the Copa Libertadores were both packed with excitement, goals, and Libertadores-worthy football. Flamengo and Palmeiras are the two Brazilian representatives, and in this article, I'll highlight the performances of the continent's two most valuable clubs.
Flamengo Was Superior at the Maracanã
More than 70,000 fans were at the Maracanã to witness Flamengo's 1-0 victory over Racing. Although the match only featured one goal, there was no shortage of commitment and battle on the field. Coach Gustavo Costas masterfully organized the Argentine club, preventing them from opening up much of the game to the deadly Flamengo attack.
Filipe Luís's Flamengo didn't play the excellent football they displayed in the previous match against Palmeiras in the Brasileirão. That 3-1 victory was crucial for boosting the players' morale. However, I believe the vast majority of the fans expected a similar performance. Even so, the team fought back, and with Carrascal's goal, Flamengo managed to break through the Argentine defense.
Carrascal, The Great Hero of the Match
The young Colombian Carrascal had already played some interesting matches for Flamengo, and it seems that with each game, he's become more comfortable, and this confidence is evident on the field. Those who have followed his football since his time at River Plate are well aware of his potential, and Carrascal will undoubtedly be a key player for the squad in this final stretch of the season.
After a superb pass to Bruno Henrique, who shot from close range, but goalkeeper Cambeses managed to save, the ball fell to Carrascal, who shot, and with a slight deflection from the Argentine defense, the ball went in. Flamengo had already tried to score, but VAR had already ruled out two Flamengo goals for offside. Fortunately, it was a red-and-black night, and Carrascal managed to give Flamengo the lead.
At the end of the match, a rather curious incident occurred: Rojo had injured Sosa, his teammate. During the dispute for the ball, Rojo threw an elbow that hit Sosa squarely in the face. Plata was also close to the incident, but nothing happened to him. After the match, the player's face was visible. Sosa suffered a fractured jaw and will not play in the return leg in Argentina. A very important loss for Racing.
Now, to reach the final, Flamengo can even draw and still qualify. A one-goal loss will send the match to penalties, but we all know the return leg won't be easy. Racing won't make things easy, and coach Gustavo Costas has already stated that he will fight until the end and believes in qualifying.
A Night to Forget... Palmeiras Unrecognizable on the Field
I believe even the least optimistic fan wouldn't have imagined the match could end in a 3-1 victory for LDU. Of course, the Ecuadorian club has the altitude advantage, and the game would be difficult, but the way the Palmeiras players handled the match was regrettable. But LDU, led by Brazilian coach Thiago Nunes, had nothing to do with that and, with beautiful football, managed to put on a killer display in the first half.
Palmeiras seemed to be completely out of sorts, and I'd like to highlight the performance of the young Bolivian Gabriel Villamíl, who scored two goals that night and was instrumental in LDU's victory. Palmeiras' defense couldn't contain the Ecuadorian club's strong attack, and what we saw in Quito showed everyone that, yes, it's possible to believe the Ecuadorian team can reach the final.
It was truly a night to forget, and coach Abel Ferreira will need to adjust the club's emotional side, precisely the mental one that has long been his strong point at Palmeiras. We've seen many incredible comebacks from the São Paulo club, and the return leg will be in Brazil, but we know the task won't be easy. Overcoming a 3-0 deficit is very difficult, but not impossible in football.
Rafael Veiga has already shown that he's no longer fit to represent the São Paulo club, and perhaps a new roster shakeup could happen at the end of the season. But everything could change if Palmeiras ends the year with titles. As we already know, Palmeiras is leading the Brasileirão and is in the Libertadores semifinals, so it's not long before they have another brilliant year.
Football is incredible, as it always brings us impressive surprises. We'll undoubtedly have two great matches in the second leg of the Libertadores, and I'm curious to know who the two finalists will be. Many predicted from the beginning that Palmeiras and Flamengo were the big favorites to reach the final, but perhaps we'll have a different final. It could be a final with only one Brazilian team, which hasn't happened in many years.
In any case, Flamengo and Palmeiras are still in contention, and if one of the clubs wins the title, it will be the biggest Brazilian team with a Libertadores, as it will be their fourth title. There's still a lot of excitement in store for us until the grand finale on November 29th in Lima, Peru, and Flamengo has fond memories of this place...

A espera acabou, a ansiedade que tomava conta do torcedor que gostaria que chegasse logo as datas das semifinais finalmente aconteceu, e nos dois primeiros confrontos da Copa Libertadores, ambos os confrontos tiveram muita emoção, gols e futebol digno de Libertadores. Flamengo e Palmeiras são os dois representantes do Brasil e neste artigo destacarei um pouco como foi a atuação dos dois clubes mais valiosos do continente.
Flamengo Foi Superior no Maracanã
Mais de 70 mil torcedores estiveram no Maracanã para presenciar a vitória do Flamengo por 1 - 0 diante do Racing. Apesar de que a partida teve apenas um gol, mas não faltou empenho e batalha dentro de campo. O técnico Gustavo Costas soube armar muito bem o clube argentino fazendo com que não desse tanta abertura para o ataque mortal rubro-negro.
O Flamengo de Filipe Luís não apresentou o ótimo futebol que demonstrou na partida anterior contra o Palmeiras pela rodada do Brasileirão é aquela partida de 3 - 1 foi muito importante para pôr mais moral para os jogadores, mas acredito que a grande maioria das torcida esperava uma atuação parecida, mas mesmo assim o time lutou e com o gol de Carrascal, o Flamengo conseguiu furar a defesa argentina.
Carrascal, O Grande Herói da Partida
O jovem colombiano Carrascal já tinha feito algumas partidas interessantes pelo Flamengo e parece que a cada jogo, ele tem ficado mais à vontade e essa confiança é vista dentro de campo. Quem acompanha o seu futebol desde o tempo de River Plate, sabe muito bem do seu potencial e sem dúvidas Carrascal será muito importante para o elenco nessa reta final da temporada.
Após um passe primoroso para Bruno Henrique que chutou a queima roupa, mas o goleiro Cambeses conseguiu defender, a bola sobrou para Carrascal que chutou e com um leve desvio da defesa argentina, a bola entrou. O Flamengo já havia tentado fazer gol, mas o VAR já tinha negado dois gols do Flamengo por conta de impedimento, mas felizmente a noite era rubro-negra e Carrascal conseguiu deixar o Flamengo na vantagem.
No final da partida aconteceu um lance bem curioso, pois Rojo havia machucado Sosa, seu companheiro de time. Durante a disputa da bola, Rojo deu uma cotovelada que pegou em cheio no rosto de Sosa. Plata também estava próximo do lance, mas não aconteceu nada com ele. Após a partida foi possível ver como ficou o rosto do jogador. Sosa sofreu uma fratura no maxilar e não disputará o jogo de volta na Argentina. Um desfalque muito importante do Racing.
Agora para chegar a final o Flamengo pode até empatar que se classifica. Uma derrota de um gol leva a disputa para os pênaltis, mas todos nós sabemos que o jogo de volta não será nada fácil. Racing não deixará as coisas simples e o técnico Gustavo Costas já destacou que vai lutar até o fim e acredita na classificação.
Noite Para Esquecer... Palmeiras Irreconhecível em Campo
Acredito que o torcedor menos otimista não imaginaria que a partida pudesse terminar com uma vitória da LDU por 3 - 1. É lógico que o clube equatoriano tem o fator da altitude como vantagem e o jogo seria difícil, mas a forma como os jogadores do Palmeiras trataram a partida foi de lamentar. Mas a LDU do técnico brasileiro Thiago Nunes não tinha nada a ver com isso e com um belo futebol, conseguiu ser matador logo no primeiro tempo.
O Palmeiras parecia não funcionar nada e destaco a atuação do jovem boliviano Gabriel Villamíl, autor de gols na noite e foi fundamental para a vitória da LDU. A defesa do Palmeiras não pôde conter o forte ataque do clube equatoriano e o que vimos em Quito, mostrou para todos que sim, é possível acreditar que o time equatoriano pode estar na final.
Foi realmente uma noite para esquecer e o técnico Abel Ferreira vai precisar ajeitar o lado emocional do clube, justamente o mental que foi por muito tempo o seu ponto forte no Palmeiras. Já vimos muitas viradas incríveis do clube paulista e o jogo de volta será no Brasil, mas sabemos que a tarefa não será nada fácil. Reverter um placar de 3 - 0 é algo muito difícil, mas não impossível no futebol.
Rafael Veiga já mostrou que não está mais a altura de representar o clube paulista, talvez uma nova reformulação de alguns jogadores possa acontecer no final da temporada. Mas tudo pode mudar se o Palmeiras terminar o ano com títulos. Como já se sabe, o Palmeiras é o líder do Brasileirão e está na semifinal da Libertadores, então falta pouco para ter mais um ano brilhante.
O futebol é incrível, pois sempre nos traz surpresas impressionantes. Sem dúvidas teremos duas grandes partidas do jogo de volta pelas Libertadores e estou curioso para saber logo os dois finalistas. Muitos apostaram desde o início de que Palmeiras e Flamengo eram os grandes favoritos para está na grande final, mas talvez teremos uma final diferente. Poderá ser uma final com apenas um brasileiro que já muitos anos não acontecia isso.
De qualquer forma, Flamengo e Palmeiras ainda estão na disputa e caso um dos clubes consiga o título, será o maior brasileiro com Libertadores, pois será seus quarto título. Muita emoção ainda nos reserva até a grande final, em 29 de novembro, em Lima, Peru e Flamengo tem uma boa recordação deste lugar...
