First Three Months: School, Home Improvement, and Unexpected Life Events

It's quite common at the turn of the year for us to make several plans, possible dreams and even those that, even though they are difficult to achieve, but who knows, maybe one day we'll have some luck, right? Unlike what happened to me and my family the year before last with the fire on the first day of the year, this time was different, thank God.

The first quarter wasn't bad, but I can't say it was that good either because I had to deal with some renovation problems in the house. As you know, I live in a rental property and since there was a fire in the backyard and part of the bathroom, the owner of the house decided to do some renovations in the house. She also improved the garage and did a lot of work in the backyard. Where the fire broke out, my wife and I had to bear the costs, but it was money we weren't expecting to spend in these first three months.

Unfortunately, the homeowner had to hire a bricklayer who charges a very high price for his services. Just to give you an idea, if it was something like R$1,800 to pave the garage, he charged R$4,000. It was very expensive and unfortunately we had to accept him, because we didn't even have time to look for another bricklayer who could do the work at the house. In addition to the delay in getting everything done, we had some very complicated situations when he came to our house. But the important thing is that it's all over now.

My Daughter for the First Time at School

My daughter is the youngest and this year my wife and I decided to leave our 2 and a half year old daughter at school. As we usually did with her other two siblings, they only went to school when they were 4 years old. This change was made precisely to help us with logistics, because in addition to helping her develop more quickly, it also leaves me more time to take care of other pending issues in my day to day life.

To be quite honest, I didn't expect her to adapt so quickly to school. I know that there are children who miss their parents, cry and throw tantrums, but for her it was something so "natural" and it wasn't that strange. Despite this, since my wife and I are teachers, we know that at this age there are daily challenges and one thing I feared, but knew could happen was precisely the bites and yes, it's in the plural.

My daughter has already been bitten 3 times this quarter]() and it was precisely in the last few weeks in a short space of time. As parents, we must be patient in this situation, but the last time it happened, we had to talk to the school coordinator. The first time, a boy bit her and the first week after the bite, it was very difficult for her to readjust, because she didn't want to go to school. But after that, she managed to overcome the trauma.

Financial Difficulties

As I said before, we had to help with the renovation of the backyard and bathroom due to the fire the year before last. The landlady was kind enough not to raise the rent last year and she only raised it this year. Paying bills and having to support a family with 3 children is not easy. It is difficult to deal with these difficulties, but I know we are not alone and many families are also going through many daily challenges due to the country's poor management.

These first three months have gone by like a rocket. Despite the challenges, problems and unforeseen events, we are managing to survive. I sincerely hope that things can improve throughout the year and that we can have more time for our children, because there is no point in doing everything if it is not for them. Our life is so repetitive that sometimes I think we are in automatic mode. May better days come and I wish them so.
