Only matches on Saturday and Sunday this weekend but I'm highly looking forward to the action as I will at least have one bigger position. Here it goes for today...
Antwerp vs OH Leuven
Both these teams have a similar issue in that most of their matches are just boring as the coaches don't dare to give any space combined with the fact that they have a hard time finishing goals. Both are at the bottom of the playoff 2 standings and have nothing to play for. In Antwerp, they was some noise about potentially switching to giving youngsters a chance. Both coaches are kind of in a difficult spot in term of their position so in theory ot could be a case where they try to play a bit more forward. In reality though this rarely plays out that way so I would be rather surprised to see a wide-open match with many chances and goals. At the same time, I hate op play unders in playoff 2. If my hand was forced, I would go for OHL +0.25. For now I only took 0.1 unit on
OH Leuven +0.25 @ 2.020 and will see where the match goes in-game.
Westerlo vs Genk
This is the match between the 2 main candidates to win Playoff 2 and Westerlo last week managed to overtake Genk after winning 1-2 against 10 players of Standard, which in the end was narrow but deserved. The week before they took a flattering win at home agains Charleroi an overall I'm not fully sold on Westerlo even though they manage to create quite some xg since they also get quite some behind. Genk last week had an off day not getting further than a 0-0 draw OHL in a match were there just was very little drive and energy. Their coach stated that it was because they upped the training already with an eye on next season but the data showed no signs of real fatigue. Genk remains a team with the potential and quality to be in playoff 1 but it's always something. I do expect that they will want to show a reaction after last week. With plenty of matches to go still, this is not a must-win game for both teams so a draw might not be the worst result for both of them so having that covered is important when betting. I do see the Genk having the edge in this one and was willing to take 0.2 units on
Genk 1st Half +0 @ 1.980 & 0.2 units on
Genk +0 @ 2.000. I might add to this in case there are some good signs mainlt of Karetsas having a good day. I'm also keeping an eye out for the lineup and for Bayram to start as he is the new penaty kicker and it feels like the odds on him to score haven't adjested fully yet.
Charleroi vs Standard
Charleroi with again a new coach managed to wuin with a 2-1 score at home from Antwerp but it didn't really feel like they were back as the win was quite flattering. Standard is still in contention to win playoff 1 but a win is absolutely needed for that. This was also the case in the 1st 2 matches but away they stuck to a defensive plan which switched to offense when they fell behind. They managed to win wth 1-3. The home match against Westerlo was more open and forward ending in a 1-2 loss with really poos finishing and also a red card for Standard. I do expect an approach from Standard where they focus on the defense first and where the chances that they do get might see more poor finishing. it will become interesting if Charleroi managed to score the first goal since a likely closed match should then turn into an open match which might give some opportunities for betting. I don't think Charleroi deserves to be this much of a favorite and I took 0.16 units on
Standard +0.5 @ 2.096 with an option to possibly get in some more in case Standard falls behind.
Mechelen vs Anderlecht
Anderlecht so far in the playoffs have been much worse compared to what the results indicate. They were humiliated against Club Brugge in the 1st half and the 3-1 win against AA Gent was fully givted by the opponents. They saw their best player De Cat getting injured also but they did a great deal in the standings toward the 4th or 5th place and a draw will keep them above Kv Mechelen. Mechelen took a fair 1-1 draw away against AA Gent playing a great 2nd half (also thanks to the opponents). They also created 10 corners in that match after they fell behind. Last week they lost deserved against Union with a 0-1 score where they were unable to create anything against a good defense. For today I kind of expect a match where the home team might be fired up and willing to go forward. This might turn out in a match where they simply are better and deserve the win or where Anderlecht is 'smarter' and exploits the spaces. I feel that the handicap and odds are pretty accurate and think the match will get more interesting to bet on once a team scored a goal. The only bet I took is 0.16 units on
