Jupiler League Week 2 Saturday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, and injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

I was unable to watch the match live yesterday but followed it on my phone and just kept my pre-game positions which produced some profit. 4 Matches from here on out always on Saturday instead of 3 previous seasons. So here it goes...

Union vs Zulte-Waregem

Union played a mid-week match away against Bodo/Glimt where they played extra time with 10 players and lost in the last minutes of extra time. So fatigue might be a bit on an issue today. My main angle on them is that they no longer have the same defensive certainty compared to last season with Scherpen and Burges gone while Sykes is injured which makes me lean on the over or opponent team total over by default. Last week against Westerlo who are still building from scratch again. That match ended in a convincing 1-5 score which also was exagerrated. Their first half was not the best and they got 1-0 behind on a counter. They once again showed their efficiency while Westerlo had somewhat of a collapse in the 2nd half. Zulte-Waregem put up the surprise result of the weekend with a 2-1 win over an underwhelming Racing Genk who crawled back totally showing no intensity after scoring the 0-1. So it's hard to estimate the performance of Zulte because the result mostly came because of Genk giving it away. I would not be surprised by a match that saw a slow start with things eventually exploding in the 2nd half like last week. Union no longer is a defensive powerhouse while they look quite ok offensively. The only bet I took so far was a tiny 0.043 unit bet on Union Win & Both To Score @ 3.190 which feels like ok value. I will likely take in-game bets on this one.

Kortrijk vs Antwerp

Kortrijk is new in the Belgian league and I opposed them last week in-game against Club Brugge. Kortrijk could have scored in transition in the 1st half and aside from the early Brugge Domination did not do that bad. However, after the 1-0 came, they simply showed too poor and not good enough against a strong team like Brugge. They are a team who traditionally do ok at home especially when playing toward their fans. Antwerp is a team still very much under full construction. They aim to play more forward compared to last season which was noticeable in their home game but it remains to be seen if they also have those intentions in away games. Overall right now, I don't estimate them that high with a lot of rebuilding work to do. I expect a match were both cautiously want to go forward with maybe not enough finishing quality to really go for an over bet. I do expect Kortrijk the team with the initiative especially in the half where they play toward their own fans. The bets that I'm leaning towards is a high-odds over 3.5 total and Kortrijk on the +0 line. I kind of want to see how things go and which half Kortrijk plays toward what direction. So for now, only 0.1 units on Over 3.5 @ 3.857

Genk vs Westerlo

Genk pretty similar to last season was kind of the dissapointment of the weekend as they have a team with a lot of technical quality but they remain a bit vulnerable in the back as the defensive midfielder positions hasn't really been solved while they lack experience also in the back. They mentality and fighting spirit combined with confidence is also lacking. The 0-1 lead kind of came out of nowhere but they failed to push after and crawled back playing with fire which backfired in a late 2-1 loss. Westerlo with so many players that left showed that they aren't fully ready yet against Union eventually getting punished by an exagerrated 1-5 score. The pressure might be on for them today and I would not be surprised if they had a more defensive approach luring on the counters. I do expect Genk to start this match with the intentions to put things straight after last week. The over line feels like it's set in quite the extreme way at 3.5 which at the same time kind of feels scary to oppose. My reaction last week was to oppose Westerlo right after they finished their match which I did with a couple crypto bets of 100 USDC on Genk -1 @ 2.04 over at Solcasino.io & 100 USDT on Genk -1 @ 1.980 over at Sportbet.one. I quickly regretted not waiting for Genk to play their match as the line shifted to -0.75 when it was released on Pinnacle and at that time I no longer felt like taking that due to the uncertainty from Genk. However, by now it shifted all the way to -1.25 so I'm kind of ok just sticking to the 2 small crypto bets that I took and will keep them on. I do see the odds on the under too high and took 0.194 units on 1H Under 1 @ 3.040 along with 0.106 units on 1H Under 1.25 @ 2.205, and 0.1 unit on Under 3 @ 2.520 all with the intention to if possible put the exposure safe in-game or hit a middle. I'm also kind of leaning toward Genk on the 1H corners as I see a match picture with them taking charge.

OH Leuven vs Club Brugge

OHL despite the 3-1 loss against Charleroi was not that bad until a red card came early which right after didn't show in the play as they managed to score the 1-1. over 90 minutes though the red card was deadly for them against an ok Charleroi. The main takeaway is that they should be a much more overish team this season. The question though is if they are also willing to play this way against top teams and if they have enough quality as previous seasons where home matches against top teams ended 0-1 / 0-0 / 1-2 / 1-1 so always a quite close result without taking a win. They do have mostly the same team but a different approach because of the new coach. Club Brugge right now I don't really want to oppose as I see a possible scenario that they right now are the 'bayern munchen of Belgium' already easily producing scorelines where they get in 3 goals or more. The main angle I have on them now is to back them if they fall behind or when they have to score late as I see them very much capable of stepping things up when they need to. If they are ahead late, an extra goal on the counter when the opponent needs to take risk also is always on the table. I do fear that in many of the matches they will be up by 2 which makes betting a lot harder. So for this one, I'm just waiting to see what happens and might take Brugge in-game. No Pre-Game bets
