Soot,the pollution that almost killed people finish

Pollution is something I don't think the government of Nigeria is ready to tackle at all, especially noise and air pollution. Expect it start killing people first cause they are all busy fighting to fill their pockets.

WHAT IS THE MAJOR CAUSE OF POLLUTION IN MY AREA?

The major cause of pollution in my area is bunkery, which is water and air pollution; ever since bunkery came into place in Rivers State, both the air and rivers/sea have not been the same. The place has been polluted badly. If you are living close to the waterside, you will notice oil on top of the river at times.

Whenever this happens, all the fish in that river disappear, or you will see some of them dead at the shore. Bunkery and companies that do flare are polluting the whole of my area equally.

HOW BAD IS IT?

It's very bad that whenever you clean your house, in the next 5 seconds, go back and touch your table, and your hand instantly will be stained with soot. It's become so bad that whenever you sleep and wake up, mistakenly, your hand enters your nose, or you use a white handkerchief to clean your nose; it will be dark as if you rub charcoal on your nose before going to bed; even when you are awake, the same thing happens to you, too. If you spread cloth with a hanger outside the house, particles of the soot rest on it, and you can't clean it off; if you do, it stains immediately.

People began to fall ill because of the soot.

Health problems that arise from this

Respiratory Issues:
Soot particles, penetrate deep into the lungs, leading to or exacerbating respiratory problems like bronchitis, asthma, and pneumonia this became worse in children

Cardiovascular Problems:
High risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other heart-related issues.

Cancer Risk:
Soot contains carcinogenic elements, increasing the risk of developing certain types of cancer, including lung, skin, bladder, and esophageal cancer.

Soot pollution also causes skin irritation, eye, nose, and throat irritation, and may contribute to developmental disorders in children. The combined effects of all these health problems can lead to premature death. Which is why many started running

MEASURES THAT HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO TACKLE THIS ISSUES?

It took the complaints of the entire state both on radio and social media and people relocating out of the state, with companies moving out. Some people dying in their sleep before the federal government and the state government decided to join forces and stop bunkery activities in the state. With the help of Navy and Army officers.

How did I cope with it?

I use a nose mask to cover my nose when going out; as for my clothes, I wear more black, which is the order of the day for almost everybody.

IS IT SOMETHING THAT IS ENDING ANYTHING SOON?

Yes, because as soon as the government swung into action, the bunkery activities reduced drastically, and soot disappeared, although not completely; you barely noticed it. The only one that the government is still battling is water pollution, which is oil spillage. I hope they can conquer that too.
